About the adventure
Step aboard the Orient Express, where polished brass, crisp linens, and impeccable service promise comfort as Europe slides past your window. Before the train reaches its destination, however, something ancient stirs and promises to change the very fabric of our world. Horror on the Orient Express is a classic Call of Cthulhu campaign that unfolds across multiple countries. What begins as a series of unsettling coincidences slowly reveals a web of history, obsession, and supernatural threat that spans centuries. This is a story of investigation, dread, and difficult choices, where knowledge is both your greatest weapon and your greatest danger. This game welcomes both new and experienced Call of Cthulhu players. I’ll guide you through the system at a comfortable pace and provide support where needed. Safety tools are used to ensure the horror stays immersive and enjoyable, with clear boundaries and open communication throughout. If you enjoy slow-burn horror and rich historical settings, this journey may be for you.

About me
Hello! I’m Ashley May—a professional Game Master, horror writer, and storyteller with a deep love for atmosphere, character, and stories that linger long after the candles burn low. I’ve been running tabletop RPGs for over a decade, with a particular fondness for cosmic horror, gothic dread, and emotionally driven narratives. I gravitate toward games that reward curiosity, tension, and meaningful choices, and I strive to create sessions that feel immersive, intentional, and unforgettable. I’ve had the pleasure of facilitating games for conventions and special events, including Cthulhu in the Castle. I enjoy welcoming both new and experienced players and introducing them to rich worlds and systems. I’m also a trainer with Geek Therapeutics and a certified therapeutic Game Master, which informs how I approach safety, consent, and collaborative storytelling. Player comfort, communication, and trust are foundational at my table. If you’re looking for a game that values mood, story, and character over mechanics alone, I’d be delighted to guide you into the dark.

Creating your character
Character creation will take place before the first session. I’ll provide clear written instructions and a short form for you to fill out, which we’ll use to shape investigators that fit naturally into the story and setting. Characters will be created using the standard Call of Cthulhu rules. I’ll guide stat generation and any choices needed so everything stays balanced and accessible, whether you’re new to the system or returning to it. Investigators will begin at starting level, appropriate to the campaign. Character sheets will be created and shared digitally, and we’ll review them together at the start of play to make sure everyone feels comfortable and ready.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before the first session, players should complete a few simple steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. First, you’ll create your character using the form and instructions I’ll provide. This should be done ahead of time so we can focus on the story when the game begins. You’ll also need a Discord account, this will serve as a hub for session links, announcements, and handouts. Make sure you have any necessary software downloaded for audio and video so you can participate fully. Finally, take some time to review your character sheet and any setting notes I provide. Bring any questions or clarifications to the first session, so we can start the journey aboard the Orient Express with confidence. Once these steps are complete, you’ll be ready to step into the story and experience the mysteries that await.
What Ashley May King brings to the table
As your Keeper, I aim to create a fully immersive and story-driven experience. Players can expect a table rich in atmosphere, with evocative descriptions and distinct NPC voices that bring the world to life. My focus is on tension, mystery, and character-driven storytelling rather than constant combat, though challenges and conflicts certainly will when they arise. I lean toward the Rule of Cool when it enhances the story, but mechanics are clear and consistent, so players always know how their choices matter. Expect careful pacing, layered mysteries, and opportunities for your characters to shine, take risks, and explore the darker corners of the world. All handouts, session notes, and digital resources will be provided ahead of time whenever possible, and I encourage players to bring character props if they like—but it’s never required. The goal is to make each session engaging, memorable, and collaborative, so that stepping aboard the Orient Express feels like entering a living, breathing story.

Safety
How Ashley May King creates a safe table
Player safety and comfort are a top priority at my table. I use the Virtual Deck of Player Safety and X-Cards to allow players to communicate boundaries, triggers, or discomfort at any point during the game. Players can use these tools digitally, by messaging, or by holding up their card on video—whatever feels most natural and discreet. Before the campaign begins, I provide a virtual Deck of Player Safety and go over it in a brief Session 0, where we discuss boundaries, safety tools, and expectations for collaborative storytelling. This session ensures everyone understands the mechanics of safety, the tone of the game, and the style of play, while giving space for questions or concerns. After each session, I offer optional debriefing, allowing players to reflect on intense moments, ask questions, or process the story in a supportive environment. The goal is to create a table where players can fully engage with the story and the horror of the narrative while always feeling secure, respected, and heard.
