About the adventure

The free city of Blackbottom has enjoyed wealth, peace, and an independence that leaves the city largely unconcerned with the political nonsense of the main land. All of that ends today. Ajax the Conqueror has turned his gaze onto the city. Hordes of demons flood into the city. Even more concerning, you are explicitly on the Iron Saint's shit list. This day can't possibly get any worse. But all is not lost. Blackbottom, a notorious smuggler's port, has hundreds of passages in and out of the city. Surely Ajax's forces can't cover them all. The City is also home to one of the most powerful mercenary groups in all of the land. All you have to do is find a place to hunker down, keep your head low, and wait for all of this to blow over. How hard could it be?

About me

A warm welcome to one and all, but especially friends to all things that creep and crawl, the strange and the macabre. Make yourself comfortable by the fireside and let's tell a story together. I'm Arthur (he/him), the queer resident swamp vampire, or possibly just 3 gators in a trenchcoat. I'm a big fan of the weird, spooky, and strange and bring my enthusiasm for horror to the table whether that be skulking through the alleys of Miskatonic, roaming the Mists of Ravenloft, or avoiding the grinding gears of the eternal political machine of the Danse Macabre. I strive to create worlds that players can get lost in. I create NPCs with compelling backstories. And I like using music and props to help make the story more immersive. But above all, I'm the biggest fan of my players and the stories they want to tell. I've been GMing for over a decade since college. I've made lifelong friendships through this wonderfully weird hobby. There have been many systems that have come and gone over the years, but one thing remains constant: The hunger for fulfilling stories centered on the player characters. I also try to make my table as inclusive as possible. I've been able to explore many aspects of my identity thanks to tabletop games and understand how vital having that space can be. Session 0s are a must for the group to talk out what is and isn't appropriate for our table, and I am a firm believer in safety tools such as lines/veils and the X card. I'm always excited to introduce new folks to the hobby so never fear! (Except d4s. Do fear those, they're the worst to find underfoot) So grab a character sheet, light a candle, and huddle in close. The night is long and dark, but there are friends around this fire, and I can't wait to hear the tales you will tell.

Character creation

Creating your character

There are a number of pre-gen characters that are built with this module in mind. When you join the campaign you will be given a link to the pregen characters and can select one if you want to just dive right in without fiddling with character creation. Alternatively, if you'd like to walk through character creation, I will set up a time prior to Session 0 where I'll walk through character creation with you and help you build a character from scratch. This session will take about an hour.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

When you join I'll add you to my Discord server and give you a role that will allow you to access a private set of channels for the game. We will be using Roll20 to keep track of character sheets and to roll dice. Please make sure you have a Discord and Roll20 account - both are free and require no purchases!

Safety

How Arthur G creates a safe table

We'll have a session 0 to discuss the general tone of the campaign and the preferences of the group on things like lethality, kinds of horror, and how to handle sensitive topics that are linked to this campaign as written. The lines/veils doc will be anonymous and available for the group to change at any time during the campaign. We'll also determine how long people would prefer for the sessions & how frequently people would like to take breaks. X, N, O's can be messaged either to the group at large or can be sent to me privately.
