About the adventure
New players and all levels of experience welcome! Initial reports, intercepted by the Kremlin, have been sent to the President of the United States about a mysterious island that suddenly appeared in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. No previous maps showed the small atoll, and airplanes flying above it report strange twinkling lights. CIA agents have been dispatched to investigate, with the KGB hot on their tail. Is it a deep-sea leviathan? Otherworldly travelers? Nuclear fallout? Whatever the cause, the investigators are sure to never forget the trip - even if they try. Players will create a backstory and reason for arriving at the atoll, and the adventure will begin at they reach the shore. They will have to use their wits, reflexes, and maybe even a few pistols to figure out what exactly is happening. And if some turn to dark powers in order to survive, who can blame them? Kids on Bikes is a sandbox-style system based around the intrepid investigators of a 'Stranger Things' world. It's easy to learn, and character creation requires minimal decision-making. The only limits are your imagination! And perhaps the imaginations of beings less terrestrial...

About me
I started playing TTRPGs as a kid with my dad, who introduced me to D&D 2e (but don't ask me to explain THAC0). I have most experience playing D&D 3.5 and 5, Pathfinder 2e, and Kids on Bikes. I'm queer, and want to make sure everyone feels comfortable at the table. Sometimes NPCs might have biased or bigoted views, but they are often villains or their views will be frowned upon by others.

Creating your character
Some of character creation can happen beforehand, with precise instructions given on my Discord server. But our initial session will flesh out the characters, make connections, and set the scene. Players are welcome to look into Kids on Bikes mechanics before joining, but no prior knowledge is expected.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The session will happen on my Discord server, so you will need an account as well as a connected mic. We will also use the Foundry VTT for character portraits, maps, and dice rolling (but no account required). Characters should be initialized before the session begins, but I am available to help that process. Otherwise all you need to bring is a fresh, juicy brain!
What Jason brings to the table
Kids of Bikes is mostly a theater-of-the-mind system, with a few maps that are only to give senses of locale and scale. I will provide direction and PDFs for character creation, but the game itself will happen on my discord server. This is a roleplay story, with combat possible but also entirely avoidable. Characters will use dice to determine certain important moments, as well as find clues and make connections. I follow a certain Rule of Cool mindset, but am most interested in the collaborative storytelling of the adventure. I do not use ambient music, but will do my best to use character voices and flesh out the 'world' of the mysterious atoll.
Homebrew rules
We will mostly follow the official rules for Kids on Bikes, with a few thematic name changes. (And thanks to Dimension 20's Mentopolis for the schema!) Fight is now Sharp Flight is now Sneak Brains is now Savvy Brawn is now Sturdy Charm is now Slick Grit is now Snoop
