About the adventure

This is a one-shot meant to introduce player to the combat side of Dungeons and Dragons. This will be my first time/first few times running this one shot so I ask for some patience. In this game, I hope to allow new players to become comfortable with their chosen class, see the possible freedom within the rules, and overall have a fun time delving into a dungeon. This isn't only for first timers! If you're new to Dungeons and Dragons or a veteran who'd like to see how the new generation is playing, feel free to tap in! Before we begin we will be meeting up to discuss the detail of the one-shot in a "Session 0". This will allow me to help you pick a preset character or build you're own for the one shot. There will be some roleplaying at the beginning, before delving into the cave giving basic backstory and character interactions. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask me on Discord at eldrago2014. PFP is a blood dragon from Dragon age.

About me

Wassup! I have been GMing since I was 14, starting at a summer camp one shot as a player. Afterwards, I found myself playing with friends from across the country over discord using Roll 20, D&D beyond and Owlbear Rodeo for playing and creating characters. I would watch and listen to DND games like Critical role Campaign 2, and Worlds Beyond Number. A few years later I started getting into DMing my own Dungeons and Dragons games first starting with a one shot with a few homies, then starting a serious campaign a few months after. My 2nd campaign has gone on for over 2 years, started at the same time, each currently with 3 players, in the same homebrewed world. Over the years I've learned to believe in the rule of cool, respecting the rules of the game while also indulging in the story that we will create. Id love to play learn and play other systems like WOD and CAIN.

Character creation

Creating your character

Although this is posted as a campaign, THIS IS A ONE SHOT. This means that we will be playing together one time, and hopefully I will have helped create an interest in playing more. We will be playing Level 1 with 5e (5th edition) 2014 book. Recently the new 5th edition books have come out but I am not yet familiar with those mechanics so for now, I will be using the 2014 5e books. We can either make character or use the presets provided by the module. For character creation, we will be using D&D beyond to create the characters. For the methods, we have rolling, point buy or standard array. Standard array is the easiest, just assign the scores to the abilities you want. In point buy, you will have 27 points to spend on your different ability scores. During session 0, I will go more in depth into how to perform this method. I prefer using the roll method of character creation. In this method, you roll 4d6 (roll 4 6-sided die), drop the lowest and add the 3 other rolls. You do this 6 times, one for each character ability score. If you receive 2 1s during the rolls i.e: 6, 4, 1, 1, you may re roll the 1 for another number one time. I will be doing free session 0s for setting the game and players up. In the session zero, I will go over the backstory of the one shot and helping with character creation. When doing character creation, you may use any books you have on D&D beyond, as well as the books I have access to in the D&D beyond campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have access to Discord, Owlbear Rodeo, and D&D Beyond. Discord is how we will communicate in a server. Owlbear Rodeo is "Owlbear Rodeo is an attempt to make a web app to run tabletop encounters without the complicated setup process needed for other VTTs." This will help us visualize combat encounters and make delving the dungeon a lil more immersive. D&D beyond is how we will keep track of character sheets, combat encounters and character creation. All of these are available on PC as well as on a smartphone, although it is recommended you have a laptop or desktop for the best experience. You may use physical dice, I ask that you hold yourself accountable for your rolls. We're all creating a story together and sometimes the dice are goofy fools who like to see a character fail.

What Anthony brings to the table

I will do character voices, and attempt to use some ambient music. The combat I expect to be difficult, with likely a character goin unconscious during one of the encounters. I am not out to get y'all, but the goblins in this cave very much are. I fully embrace the Rule of Cool, should the table find an action reasonable and the dice permit it, I have no problem describing the outcome. Ill also provide Maps, Tokens, and hopefully a well set mood. All you all will need is: - A FREE D&D account account. (I can help) - Chrome or equivalent - Microphone - Speaker or Headset - Internet - Curiosity & Fun

Homebrew rules

I don't have any homebrew rules to list at the moment but am very open to any additions the players would like to add.

Safety

How Anthony creates a safe table

I will be providing a fillable consent checklist. This One-Shot won't be very intense, however its good practice to provide a consent sheet for the Lines and Veils of the game. I want everyone at the table to be comfortable when they play my games. In session zero, I will go over the expected possible issues that may come up during the game like the possibility of snakes, spiders, blood and anything else within the one shot. If you have any other suggestions on how to keep the game safe please do not hesitate to tell me.
