About the adventure

I a world where most people of power have held that place of power for many lifespans. The commonfolk come to see it as a norm to be ruled over instead of ruling themselves. These people have brought forth technological marvels such as locomotion and firearms and have created whole cultures inspired by a simple work of art. Some are friends and others are revered as gods, while others try to usurp gods or enlist their aid to extend their immortal lives. Many if not all of these immortals have turned into some kind of tyrant after living long enough to detach themselves from living people. Giving rise to many revolutions along the years. They have all had different degrees of success but one thing is for certain. THEY DIDNT HAVE YOU, AND NOW THEY DO. This is based on the many variations of "Liches" created by PointyHat and i simply wanted to make a world where they all existed and had clear effects on society. This is a world where arcane study is clearly a type of science, and most of the technological marvels are some kind of arcane invention. Where gods are formed out of the belief of the people and where everyone has a small connection to the weave of magic, just like the other natural forces. The world knows it's a game, not the pople in it who still refer to the classes by their actual names. An assasin is clearly a type of rogue in this world for example.

About me

"What do you want to do?" and "Well now there is!" Those are my two favourite things to say as a GM, because that's what TTRPG's are all about. Making things up and figuring out the consequences of my actions are my two favourite things to do while playing. I prefer to run games with the agendas and structures figured out, but really want a base of honest storytelling to do bits and tense moments on top of. I try to make my games fun in the moment but with a true and heartfelt message in the centre. I find it really hard but when it works it feels so good. Let me help you make the funny and cool things happen, and then help me make a gripping story for us all. As a player pretty much the same thing, I like to throw out many hooks for the GM to latch on to, giving them leverage to threaten my character with. No matter if I'm playing a bastard waiting for the consequences to their actions, or a sad, sad boy finding something to live for I will have a good time if I get to pop off either with mechanics or storytelling. Hopefully both.

Character creation

Creating your character

You've all been hired by a common revolutionary to prevent one of, if not the most dangerous type of immortal, an Apotheosis from being created. Aka a cult leader/demigod. Make a character who would be willing to join the revolution, what reason you have is completely fine to choose. Even being there for the pay/food or to avoid the law could be valid options. Your character will start out at lvl 2 and you can use any way of determining stats (standard array, point buy or rolling). If you roll badly enough i'll let you reroll one or a few stats. My rule of thumb is total combined stats should be 70 or above, at least one bad (-1/2) and one good stat (+3/4). Any official 2014 material is fine and I love homebrew, some pre-approved ones are the pugilist (Benjamin Huffman), anything KibblesTasty or LaserLlama have made and most of BoneWizard's stuff as well. And Ryoko's guide to the yokai realms. Also if something seems really busted i will ask you not to do that, but I like competent characters. Just some features that I think are bullshit. If there's something you'd like to play that you can't find, tell me and we can workshop it together TELL ME AT LEAST 2 DAYS BEFOREHAND IF SO.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I have a Discord server and will share the link to that server after you've joined. We will have a session 0 but please come to that session 0 with a character concept at least. Just an idea of the person you want to play or the mechanics you want to play with. I would prefer using a simple Vtt like Owlbear Rodeo, AboveVtt or Bag Of Mapping. but that we will discuss during session 0 as well. To make sure everyone can join. Whatever medium you make a character in doesn't really matter to me as i keep track of most of my own things manually. I would recommend Shard tabletop, DnDBeyond, Roll20, pen & paper. I trust that you will be truthful about your character & rolls. You don't have to be making funny voices, but try your best to do and act like you character would.

What Torik brings to the table

I like to use ambient music both in rp, exploration and combat. When roleplaying i try to give the characters unique voices based on changes in pitch and bad/good accents. Combat will usually involve some kind of objective that isn't "kill the monsters" and i like to blend the different parts of the game when possible. Including the things players make up also makes the world a bit more fun, since I

Homebrew rules

My rules: Potions as bonus action, giving them to others is an action (the utilize action technically). The retcon action: At any time you can say your character prepared something (even though you didn't) and make an intelligence check against a DC set by me the GM. On a success you prepared it and use up appropriate recourses. Ready anything: you can ready any type of action (except reaction) and even movement simply by saying it. You do not take an action to do so, but do use your reaction on the trigger. Stunned: the bone wizard way I stole the heroic inspiration, one spell slot per turn and D20 tests rules from 2024 DnD. If you like some other rules change tell me! I'd love to hear new ideas.

Safety

How Torik creates a safe table

We will have a session 0 (that will be free of course) before the first session, where we will discuss expectations and boundaries. As well as character creation and connections. LInes and Veils for the campaign (it WILL change to be more/less srict after session 0): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10-O_L6Ld-CC2GaT7e2T54mHSpV7LdfTOrSn9uzGWbco/edit?usp=sharing 1. Safe Words/X, N & O's: Tell me beforehand what yours is and say it clearly if you feel uncomfortable at the table FOR ANY REASON. We will then stop, reassess and figure out a more comfortable way to do things. If you need to leave that's fine too, no explanation needed but it would be appreciated so that I can help make sure you feel safe. 2. PvP Only With Consent: Any interaction that compromises another player's autonomy will need approval from both parties and me the GM. 3. Screening: I will check in with each player to make sure they've at least read my table rules and know basic table etiquette. 4. Aftercare/Debriefing: After the game I will stay to have a convo about how the game was and good/bad parts, or parts that were personally important and anything you might want to do next session.
