About the adventure

The storm has swallowed the coastline, the lighthouse is gone dark, and the frightened murmurs of villagers tell of ships being taken beneath the waves. Your party is summoned to investigate the failing beacon, once a source of safety, now a source of fear. What starts as a simple rescue mission rapidly unravels into a mystery entailing hidden motives, strange magic, and an unseen force that manipulates from the depths. This one-shot blends combat-focused action with mystery and light espionage, challenging players to find a way out by uncovering clues, treading through tense social encounters, and making meaningful decisions against the dangers of the raging sea. Whether fighting aquatic creatures in crashing surf, climbing a storm-battered lighthouse, or piecing together the truth behind its disappearance, every moment is crafted to feel cinematic and memorable. This game is designed for both brand-new players and seasoned adventurers, containing clear guidance for new players but with enough tactical depth to satisfy veterans. You'll explore a dangerous coastline, confront powerful foes, and unravel a secret that threatens far more than the lighthouse itself. If you're looking for a truly thrilling, self-contained adventure where teamwork, courage, and quick thinking shine, this story is for you.

About me

Greetings, fellow adventurers! My name is Draxter, and I am a long-standing fan and enjoyer of tabletop games. My favorite of them all and the one I have the most experience with is Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). I have years' worth of experience in the hobby and have spent most of that time GM-ing for my friends and local games stores. In fact, I have even partnered up with schools and universities and taught students to play and created games in that environment. Most of my experience as a GM comes with introducing and teaching new players. With that said, I have had several multi-year campaigns that have had satisfying conclusions. I firmly believe that if you were to choose my games, you would be left with nothing short of a memorable, life-changing experience through stories that can only be brilliantly told through the lens of D&D. I hope to see you at the table!

Character creation

Creating your character

This is a D&D 5e One-shot. Character creation should be done before the session starts. Players are welcome to use any platform or method for character creation they would like, but D&D Beyond is highly recommended, as that is what I will use. You will all be level 5. Feel free to use either Standard Array or Point Buy for allocating stats and attribute distribution. For starting equipment, only have the basic starter equipment (see the ones given on D&D Beyond for reference). This means no special items or anything similar. There is no restriction on what your character can be, as long as they fit within these guidelines.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Make sure to have Discord and a Discord account - Make sure to have a Roll20 Account - (OPTIONAL, but HIGHLY recommended) Make sure to have a D&D Beyond Account for your character sheets - Make sure to join the following discord server: https://discord.gg/yvzDCk99

What Draxter brings to the table

As a GM, I focus on cinematic storytelling supported by immersive atmosphere. I use character voices and ambient music to set the mood, and I love giving players dramatic moments to shine. My combat tends to be fast, tactical, and meaningful, without dragging on. I follow the Rule of Cool whenever it makes the story better, but keep core rules consistent so everyone feels grounded and treated fairly. Players can expect a game full of roleplay, strong narrative stakes, impactful choices, and memorable character moments.

Homebrew rules

- Drinking a potion as a bonus action - Critical Hits may have other effects instead of just adding another damage die or simply more damage. - Downed characters only need to succeed once to get back up - Charisma and Social checks may be circumvented with good Role Play - The Rule of Cool above all!

Safety

How Draxter creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are always top priorities at my table. Before the campaign begins, I run a Session 0 where we review tone, themes, boundaries, and expectations. I provide a Lines and Veils (or Safety Tools) document that players can fill out privately, and I check in individually if needed. During sessions, we use digital X/N/O cards (simple chat messages or icons) so players can signal discomfort discreetly at any time. If something crosses a boundary, we pause, rewind, or shift the scene without calling attention to anyone. I will make sure to clearly state any controversial themes within the game and make it clear to my players that their safety and comfort are my absolute priority. My goal is to create a table where everyone feels safe exploring big emotions, high stakes, and dramatic moments while always knowing their comfort comes first.
