About the adventure

This game is designed for anyone. Veteran players and new ones alike. The goal here is to go through the adventures of Tales from the Yawning Portal, but with another...let's say "ultimate" quest in my custom world of Auro. The dungeons will remain 90-100% the same as they are in the book, so if you're just a fan of the module we'll still be running each of those. This allows both myself and the players though to have character building and defining quests in between the episodic adventures that the Yawning Portal provides. For example, the Yawning Portal is just one end of the massive Underdark caverns. On the opposite side Agne's Greaves, the mountains that make up the northern portion of the main continent, lies "The Dawning Portal" which has been shut down for sometime, and maybe the adventurers will find out why.

About me

I've been DMing games off and on for around 9 years. I enjoy many different hobbies outside of TTRPGs, so I can talk about almost anything but I'm willing to learn anything from new people as I expound my knowledge. Generally I'm a low energy person, but when the hype is real for moments then I'm there yelling with players too. I try to be as much along for the ride as they are, even though I know where it ends. The beautiful part is TTRPGs still surprise me, and that's why I love them.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will do a Session 0 to get together and go over both what resources to utilize for character creation and how to handle backstories so I can begin weaving them into Auro.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord and Alchemy accounts will be necessary. I will have a discord server for all of my StartPlaying games and players to be hosted in.

What Wes Gates brings to the table

Maps, Music, sometimes endearing and sometimes terrible Voice Acting. My goal is to tell the story together, and I try to set as much ambience as I can for people to RP and talk to their hearts content. I'll also gladly explain and re-explain any and all mechanics so we can ensure we all are on the same page.

Homebrew rules

My Default Home Brew Rules: Weight tracking won't be a thing. I'm not gonna let you carry 10 Greatswords and 5 Anvils without good explanation of how, but that extra math is both a burden for you and I. Daggers are a bonus action weapon. Throw em, stab someone, do whatever with it, but it's too light and too nimble to justify it always being an action to attack and do things with it (plus it gives almost everyone a great back up option) While rules are necessary, I'm not a strict Rules as Written kinda guy, and I evaluate each rule as it comes up fresh in the campaign on if it fits what we're going for.

Safety

How Wes Gates creates a safe table

We will run a session 0 to go over everyone's possible lines. My only personal one is I do not do any sexual scenes and will handle it as a "fade to black". Once lines are established, everyone in the session will be expected to adhere to those lines not being crossed. Failure in doing so once would result in being muted/removed for a session, and we talk together for a resolution of understanding. Failure to adhere to the respected lines a 2nd time results in being banned from that particular campaign. Rather than cards, anyone in a session is capable of DMing me if there's a problem. If all you can get is the X, N, or O that's fine, or even an emoji to convey feeling about a situation, as long as I know you're uncomfortable with the situation, I can handle it from there. I've played with many different people, so I understand everyone has different lines so I will never say someone can't find a table of mine to play with, it's just not the one you're banned from if you fail to respect other players' boundaries as well.
