About the adventure

Your characters will take the roles of rhodium runners. Rhodium fuels the Star*Drive, the engine that drives faster-than-light travel. The best place to broker a deal is Lison, a planet locked in eternal twilight. A group of hearty adventurers such as yourselves will easily fill the downtime foiling a kidnapping plot, uncovering a saboteur threatening the survival of the city, and repelling an invasion led a mad admiral acting alone--or is he? Will you get the rhodium back to your employers? This designed as a stand-alone adventure, but could easily spring into a campaign if all players are willing. Designed for 3-5 characters of any level, any experience. I'm happy to teach you if you've never played Alternity before!

About me

Hi, I’m Cory—a GenX lifer in the TTRPG space, raised on rulebooks older than most streaming services and weaned on systems where a bad die roll meant rolling a new character. I run games that reward smart play, bold choices, and player agency. Whether you're navigating a derelict freighter in deep space or prying open dungeon doors in a dying realm, I offer high-stakes adventures where your decisions matter and survival is never guaranteed. My roots are in Alternity (1997), early D&D, and the OSR movement—but I love helping players new to these styles find their footing and thrive. You won’t find handholding here. What you will find is: 🎲 Tactical gameplay with real consequences 🧠 Encouragement of player creativity and critical thinking 📖 Rich, immersive worlds built around your decisions 💀 A healthy respect for the “one-bad-roll-and-it’s-over” philosophy I run one-shots, short arcs, and full campaigns. No prior experience needed—I’ll walk you through the rules, set expectations, and make sure the table feels safe, engaged, and invested. Yes, I use modern safety tools—Lines and Veils, X-Card, Open Door Policy—because I want every player to feel secure enough to go deep into the story. This is dark fun, not real trauma. So if you’re looking for a game that feels dangerous, grounded, and wildly reactive—grab your flashlight, check your ammo, and step carefully. You just might make it out alive.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters during the session, before setting out on the adventure. I have several preset skill packages that you may pick from in order to customize the type of character that you wish to create. Level is virtually meaningless in Alternity; it is one of the last of the "old school" games where advancement didn't improve the characters very much.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to have a Roll20 account and join our Discord server. Links will arrive by email when signing up.

What Cory brings to the table

You can expect a sci-fi adventure that could be at home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; blending heroic action with absurdist comedy. I will keep you laughing, but I won't let you forget you're in constant danger. Alternity is one of the last of the "old school" RPGs which reward ingenuity and survival instincts over dice rolls. Though we will use the rolls to determine success or failure, making good, level-headed choices and knowing when to advance or retreat are going to be your keys to survival. If you've never played before, or if you have but it's been a while, know that this is a brutal and unforgiving system in combat. One-hit kills are a real thing. Character level means very little in terms of damage dealt or absorbed.

How Cory creates a safe table

We will discuss any Lines and Veils during character creation. X, N, and O cards will be available on Roll20. As always, feel free to PM me at any time if I or anyone else has said or done anything triggering.
