About the adventure

Tomes & Tombs will take you into an adventure that combines classic dungeon crawling with mystery solving—perfect for players who love puzzles and peril, and the occasional questionable decision. The source material is drawn from Candlekeep Mysteries and Tales from the Yawning Portal, with some adaptations of older modules as well. The modularity of the adventures allows for a story that unfolds as the players decide their next steps—delving into mysteries or fighting for treasure as they go. Your journey begins in the Free City of Greyhawk, an urban center rife with opportunities for peril and plunder that attracts would-be heroes with promises of adventure. Tucked among its noisy streets stands a place of quiet purpose: the Great Library. Here you stand, in front of its granite walls and tall columns, a pair of massive doors flanked by stone-carved dragons. You’ve come searching for answers—and will not take no for an answer. Will your wits and strength take you to the truth, to immense riches, or to your demise? No experience needed—just bring your brain, and your blade.

About me

Hello, adventurers! I’m Arturo. I’ve been running games since the ’90s, keeping them in my life through many changes. I love video games, but nothing matches the freedom, creativity, and shared experience of TTRPGs. Style – Meet in the Middle Exploration and a sense of wonder are my favorite parts of the game, but I also enjoy tactical combat and aim to include at least one each session. I believe a great game is half preparation and half discovery: your character as you envision it makes up 50%, and the other half is what happens at the table—how we create memorable moments together. I keep things fresh and adaptable by mixing things up and not planning too far ahead, focusing on presenting the game world and its challenges. What I Currently Run
I focus on two main styles: Heroic-narrative games – a mix of official D&D 5e adventures, classic modules from earlier editions, and homebrew encounters. Sandbox exploration – open-ended campaigns using OSE rules. I’m especially excited about the upcoming Dolmenwood books. Technical
I currently use D&D Beyond for character creation and maps: a clean, integrated VTT with maps from the source material or my own. For immersion, I use music and sound effects through a dedicated Discord channel, including some tracks I’ve produced. Rules
I stick closely to rules as written to keep things clear and fair, but I’ll bend them for excitement or cinematic moments. As the campaign evolves, I may add custom rules, items, or spells—but always in response to your choices. Archetypes and Growth
I’ve always been drawn to bold fantasy archetypes—from Lodoss War and Battle Chasers to the Final Fantasy series. My goal is to help you experience a hero’s journey through your character. That doesn’t mean plot armor, but I care deeply about seeing your story unfold in meaningful (and unexpected) ways. Outside the game, I’m a university professor; at the table, I focus on listening, encouraging creativity, and—most importantly—laughs. If my themes and schedule suit you, I’d be glad to welcome you and guide you on a fantastic journey. I’m just getting started, so your trust is greatly appreciated! Yours – Arturo

Character creation

Creating your character

You create a character in Dnd Beyond and let me check it, or we can meet and do the character together. I mostly use the 2024 rules, but if you’d like something from 2014, just ask. For ability scores, point buy or standard array works best. Please choose XP (not milestone) for leveling. We can also chat about starting gear or magic items

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You only need a microphone, a discord account and D&D Beyond account - both are free.

What Arturo brings to the table

Technical part I use D&D Beyond for both character creation and maps. I use music directly integrated in the Discord via a bot, so that you can adjust the volume as you like. Game Style Tomes and Tombs is a light-hearted campaign that explores the idea of a free-flow alternation of mysteries and dungeon-crawl based on the characters decisions. Laughs and the core elements of play are in the front, and narrative elements and character arcs are expected to „fill the gaps“, emerging naturally.

Safety

How Arturo creates a safe table

Lines & Veils: Before the game starts, we'll take a moment to establish any content you'd prefer to avoid entirely (Lines) or have handled off-screen/fade-to-black (Veils). X/N/O Cards (via Discord): During the game, you're welcome to type: X – to signal something is uncomfortable and should stop or shift. N – to signal discomfort and a need to slow down or check in. O – to confirm you're good and the current scene is okay. You can send these in voice chat, in text, or directly to me in a private message—whatever you're most comfortable with. Open Door Policy: Anyone can step away from the session at any time for any reason—no need to explain.
