About the adventure
Get ready for some fun among the stars! This one-shot has a little something for everyone: Whimsical roleplay and "mini-games"; fun, engaging, and unique combat encounters; even political intrigue and mystery! And even better, it's all set against the backdrop of a concert in space! What more could you ask for in a casual, fun game? This game will feature at least 2 opportunities for combat, as well as opportunities to roleplay everything from performances to exploration to negotiation. This will also be the perfect setting to get creative with your character appearance, description, and other aspects of character creation. Set against the fantastical backdrop of a music festival AND in space, there's so much room to create something truly unique and "extra" if you so choose. Due to this being a one-shot and not too heavy on juggling a thousand rules and mechanics it is perfect for newer players looking to get more reps in, or even more experienced ones just looking to fill an afternoon. However since we will be running this game as level 5 players I personally wouldn't recommend this as your VERY first game. But fear not! I am always eager to run games that are much more accessible as a "first step" into TTRPGs!

About me
Hi, I'm Maddie, your resident spooky-goth-GM! I've been playing TTRPGs for a number of years now, starting off with D&D 4e, then moving up and now running 5e as well as the new 2024/2025 rules. In that time I've also branched out into other systems, one of my standout favorites being Blades in the Dark! I have a lifetime of experience with acting and improv, even currently working with an improv and sketch group, performing standup comedy, and am working on a degree in creative writing and film. These aspects really inform the way I GM, helping me find joy and fulfillment in giving my players things like mentally challenging puzzles and combat encounters while also bringing professional roleplay experience! I totally understand that TTRPGs can feel intimidating and inaccessible for new players, even with all the D&D media that has become so prevalent lately! I actually thoroughly enjoy getting to curate fun and engaging experiences for new players and help guide them through their first times playing! Whether you're a brand new player or an experienced one looking for more game time, let's play!

Creating your character
We'll be showing up to the session with your level 5 character sheets ready to play, however once you're signed up I am absolutely open to communicating via DM if you want any specific guidance for character creation. As for determining stats, I have two things to go by: 1. Hit dice are maxed. That is to say if, for example, you want to play a cleric, you don't need to roll 5d8 to determine your HP. You can just show up to the session with 40 as your HP. 2. For your other 6 stats, roll 4d6 and drop the lowest, and do this 7 times. From those you can choose 6 to be your ability scores as you choose. You don't necessarily have to keep the 6 highest out of those 7 as I know some players really enjoy having a "dump stat". But out of those numbers choose which you want to keep and where to put them based on your class. I want this to be THE place for you to get creative in both character creation and aesthetic! Have you always wanted to play a circle of stars druid? A Yuan-Ti punk paladin? A college of glamour centaur bard? A fairy barbarian? This is the place to have fun and try something new. That being said, just so we have boundaries in place I'll be limiting source material to these books: - The Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook (the 2024 edition has much more things to choose from, however if you would like to use the 5th edition you are more than free to) - "Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse" - "Eberron: Rising From The Last War" - "Mythic Odysseys of Theros" - "Tasha's Cauldron of Everything"
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This game will take place through Roll20, so once everyone is signed up through StartPlaying we can finalize any details via direct message and then send out the Roll20 game invites. This means that I would like players to have an account on Roll20 set up by at least 2-3 days before the game starting to give everyone ample time to prepare and troubleshoot technology if needed.
What Maddie brings to the table
I live for curating the "vibe" of a session! Especially for this game specifically I'll be involving music to fit each moment. I'll also be bringing voices and descriptive character building, and dressing/doing my makeup on-theme (not fully cosplaying or anything, but something to set the mood and allude to the setting), and I encourage players to do the same! I'll be involving maps and background images as well whenever possible. This will help everyone feel immersed when we get to the madcap and fun combat as well as roleplay moments! I have always believed in a Rule of Cool table, but within reason. I try to allow players to be as creative as they want, but to also know the limits of what is a reasonable amount of editorializing and not taking advantage of that freedom. Tweaking one or two racial or class traits, adding a magical tattoo or starting magic items, these are all examples of things I am absolutely okay with, but exercise good judgement in understanding when you've crossed the line between Rule of Cool and Breaking The Game.
Homebrew rules
Magic items automatically attune in my games, drinking a potion as a bonus action, a spell and a cantrip can be cast in the same turn as long as one can be used as a bonus action (but not two spells in the same turn)

How Maddie creates a safe table
In the week leading up to the game I will be sending out a Google form for players to fill out their personal lines and veils, which I will then compile into a single document and send out a link to said document 3-4 days before the session for everyone to read over and acknowledge they've read. During the session X, N, & Os can be sent over message, however if it's more immediate I also welcome players to hold up a "white flag" on video (a white piece of paper) to show a need for a pause as well without having to bring too much attention to it.
