About the adventure
"Welcome, one and all! Come and see some of the strangest and rarest sights in all the land! Fantastical creatures, long-forgotten magics, tamed* monsters, daring performers, and many more at the World Famous Sideshow: "Freaks Like Us" - expertly curated by the illustrious Magdalena Rosehip! * named for Sir William Tamed - the world's greatest and most short lived cryptozoologist. Disclaimer - Despite large conjecture, "Freaks like Us" operates independently of any governing body and law keeping service. Any rumors pertaining to unusual sightings, alleged criminal activity, or eldritch horrors coinciding with any of our shows are wholly unsubstantiated." ***** Set in a version of 18th Century Europe, where magic and monsters are not only known, but widely observed and studied. Take the role of a performer in the world's most famous travelling sideshow troupe. A troupe that seems to be followed by danger and adventure at every turn... Or perhaps it's the other way around. Led by the benevolent witch Magdalena Rosehip, you'll perform for the locals by day and be sent on various missions by night. Dealing with corrupt burgermeisters, evil sorcerers, strange and wicked monsters. Any problem that the population isn't equipped to handle (or just simply doesn't have the stomach for) will fall onto you, for a fee of course. After all, being a "freak" should come with some advantages. This game uses the D&D 5E (2014) system and will see players investigate, infiltrate, isolate and immobilize otherworldly threats as one the "attractions" of the sideshow itself. But in a world of magic and monsters, what makes your character stand out enough to gain the attention of Madame Rosehip? Are you a member of long-thought-extinct species? Do you have access to powers and magic thought only legend? Maybe you're the skilled in a certain art that would be deemed impossible for any normal person? Whatever the case, you sure can draw a crowd.

Creating your character
Players are encouraged to create a level 3 character that can easily fit into this campaign. All species and classes are welcome in this campaign and please remember that for this campaign, there is no such thing as "too weird". After all, the players will take the role of a sideshow attraction in a world where magic and monsters exist. So you'd need to turn the head of any citizen of this world. Please note that I have a large array of supplements (official and third party) and will be happy to share these to allow you to build the strangest character you can think of. Please also note that while this will be based on the idea of an 18th century "freak show", these shows tended to exploit physically disabled people which is not welcome in this campaign. So please focus on otherworldly and supernatural where possible. There will also be a free session 0 to discuss characters and iron out any details.

What Gnoll And Void Games brings to the table
As well as an encyclopedic knowledge of old horror and folklore, I run my games with a focus on character development, story and engagement as the primary focus. As such, rules are a great guideline but can be treated as malleable if it means a player can have frequent emotional scenes and action hero moments. "Do the cool thing, leave the mechanics of it to the GM." I also provide an original story, monsters and artwork, as well as ambient music from Syrinscape and animated maps by Forgotten Adventures.
Homebrew rules
As stated above, rules are malleable so as to allow players to "Do the cool thing, leave the mechanics of it to the GM." however no additional rules have been added ahead of time

How Gnoll And Void Games creates a safe table
This is a dark fantasy/horror setting with evil monsters that will occasionally step outside of the walls of "Saturday Morning Villainy" and will use R-rated violence as a tactic. Every effort will be made to portray these villains as cartoonish and ridiculous but they will not be above resorting to mind games and trickery. After all, it takes a monster to defeat a monster. As stated previously, while this setting is based on 18th Century travelling sideshows, a practice that capitalised on the exploitation of vulnerable people, this setting will be a pastiche of this idea, focusing on actual wonders of magic and super nature. Player comfort is always the priority and this campaign will use the Lines and Veils (at session 0 to discuss potential problematic content) and an Open Door policy so that we can create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone
