About the adventure
One fateful day, a courier finds you among your business. "Sorry it took so long to find you, I've got a long delivery list." Reading through the letter is a shock; you've been crowned as the new Baron(ess) of a plot of uninhabited land in the countryside! What's more, you've been summoned to the court of Waterdeep, one of the largest cities in the realms, to receive your title and the deed to your land. By the decree of the Lords of Waterdeep, you'll be building and leading a new settlement in the wilds of the Sword Coast. If you succeed, you'll have all of the benefits of nobility, and a thriving town as your legacy. A grand adventure waits for you. Your town's story starts here! Game Summary: You'll be taking the role of the new leader of a burgeoning settlement, guiding it through all the trials and tribulations that come with building a new home. This is a cozy adventure, designed in the style of Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, and Animal Crossing. You'll be managing resources, going on quests, and handling crises that arise to challenge your new village. This is an adventure designed with brand-new players in mind, giving a space to explore and learn about the game without the pressure of having other people at the table. If you've been looking for a place to learn the ropes of D&D in a one-on-one environment, then this is the adventure for you!

About me
Hello, one and all! My name is Connor, and I've been a GM since 2018, but with experience in TTRPGs going all the way back to 2007. RPGs have been a tradition in my family since the early 80s, stretching across 3 whole generations. I've picked up the torch as a third generation GM, ready to bring more than 40 years of shared experience and knowledge to the table. I'm a lover of a good mystery, and I enjoy incorporating aspects of investigative gameplay even in stories not primarily about solving a mystery. If a story makes you stop and think "now what could that possibly mean?" then there's a strong chance that I'll be all over it. If you're looking for games that will challenge your characters, while presenting twists and turns for them to work through as intriguing stories unfold due to their actions, then I'd love to run a game for you!

Creating your character
Characters will be created during a free session 0, where we cover the rules, content, and expectations of the game. We'll be using the 2014 version of the rules, and using the standard character creation rules. All of the steps of character creation will be covered together, so don't worry about creating a character before joining. As this is a game meant for brand new players, we'll be sticking to only the Player's Handbook character options for characters. This will keep the long list of options limited, and allow you time to become familiar with the basics of the game before expanding out into new options.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a decent microphone and good internet connection to get the most out of this game. A webcam is nice to have, but not required. We will be using Roll20 for our virtual tabletop, character sheets, and artwork, and Discord for voice & video, along with any text communication.
What The 3rd Gen GM brings to the table
I'll provide the Player's Handbook via Roll20, allowing you access to all of the classes, races, spells, and items in it. This will allow drag & drop functionality right into your character sheet.
Homebrew rules
We will be using the optional Honor ability score, to track how noble of a ruler you remain during your time as a Baron(ess). This will be covered in the session 0, and used to help structure social interactions and town management decisions.

Safety
How The 3rd Gen GM creates a safe table
This is a very cozy vibe game, and so will likely not contain any upsetting material. However, player safety and comfort is my top priority, so we will still cover the material during session 0 just to be certain that we're all set for an enjoyable game experience. In order to ensure that we maintain a safe and respectful game space, we will be making use of X, N, & O cards during the game. These can simply be sent through the in-game chat to signal the need to stop and re-assess the scene, tread carefully, or to proceed with approval.
