About the adventure

The Scarlet Citadel is a traditional dungeon delve full of mysteries, danger, and treasures in Kobold Press's Midgard setting. Though characters will be entering its upper halls as 1st level adventurers, this dungeon is not for the feint of heart. Encounters are difficult, require planning, and even the occasional strategic withdrawal. But as difficult as the challenges are, the rewards are just as sweet. Legend tells that the citadel sits upon a confluence of powerful magical ley lines. Who knows what hundreds of years of magical experiments have created! This is not an RP focused campaign. That said, there will be opportunities for various RP oriented characters to shine and that should not dissuade anyone from trying them. There is a town nearby that will act as a base of operations for the group and motivated players will find RP opportunities provided there.

About me

I got my start GMing back in high school with a little game called Rolemaster and, thirty years later, I'm still going at it. In that time I've GMed numerous groups through several different systems using both in-person and online formats. I've run groups through several pre-written campaigns, but I also have several homebrew worlds that I enjoy re-visiting with groups as well, letting their actions spin the development of those worlds in fun directions. Recently, with the boom in TTRPG systems, I've been eager to explore new and different systems and ways of running games that keep things fresh and exciting.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur during session 0 so all players can coordinate a group with a shared background and working cohesion. Character creation will be using the Tales of the Valiant Players Guide using any included rules. Use of other Kobold Press 5e supplements will be subject to pre session 0 approval by the GM.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Familiarity with the Tales of the Valiant rule system will be advantageous but not necessary. It is similar enough to 2014 5e that general knowledge of that system will suffice. An account on Alchemy VTT will be required and a Discord log-in will be useful for communication as well.

What Aisling brings to the table

I enjoy running games in Alchemy for its emphasis on maintaining a narrative feel and minimalist table. Combat will be cinematic and narrated with grid-less battle maps provided for reference and ease of rule application. That said, I do not maintain a fully RAW table and encourage creativity and player input.

Homebrew rules

None.

Safety

How Aisling creates a safe table

I will be running a free session 0 where I will encourage all players to message me their lines and veils to be placed into a group-accessible document. I will also review Alchemy's built-in X-card feature and how we will handle N and O card use. Each session will end with a short aftercare where we transition out of the game and discuss anything that needs adjusting for future sessions.
