About the adventure
Have you ever noticed that in your favourite superhero shows, the powers matter way less than the character drama? Do you enjoy stories that zoom in on "street-level" problems at least as much as "save the world" ones? Welcome to the Spider's Web. In this version of Masks, your teenage hero will be fighting against overwhelming odds in a world where "bullet-proof skin" is a massively unfair advantage and "cosmic powers" are unheard of. This fight will have very personal stakes for your own home, neighbourhood, and community. The city is filled with gangs and ambitious villains all vying for whatever power the Spider leaves for them. Vigilanties rise and fall, yet nothing ever seems to change....that is, until now. A new generation has begun manifesting new abilities that could finally change things. Will it be for better or for worse? That is up to you to decide as part of this new generation. Your powers may not make you a god, but they might just allow you the opportunity to make a difference, or even rupture the Spider's web once and for all.

About me
Zakk is a narrative-focused GM who takes the "Be a fan of your players' characters" to heart. Regardless of the system, the goal of every game/campaign is to challenge your character in order to make them shine/look awesome.

Creating your character
Character Creation will happen together in session 0. I encourage you to come with a loose concept, as a core part of this game is that your characters are still trying to figure out who they are as a vaguely 16-18-year-old high school student. There is only one playbook allowed per player. You may choose from: Beacon, Bull, Delinquent, Janus, Joined, Newborn, Protege, Reformed, Scion, and Transformed. Your backstory questions will be used to generate NPCs. Additionally, I would like you to come up with a Villain and Vigilante. A name, pronoun, and powers (if any) will be fine. I will ask for a look when they come up in play.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using Roll20 for this game. Please ensure you have an account (a free one will be just fine). Join my Discord: (Link will be provided at sign-up) We will be using Discord for voice/between-session talk, a webcam is not required, and I have copies of any PDFs you may need there. List your Lines/Veils in the appropriate channel.
What Zakk brings to the table
A uniquely customized story to you and the other players' characters. A safe place to jump into the drama inherent in this kind of story. In general, a PG-13-14A content restriction for what appears in the game. I am a GM who loves superheroes and the tropes associated with them. I am also flexible to adjust some aspects to make the game more comfortable for you to play (i.e. not every table loves romance).
Homebrew rules
A slight modification to the "Take a Powerful Blow" move. "Lose control of yourself or your powers in a terrible way" will be changed to "You're seriously injured: take -1 ongoing to every move but this one until you receive medical attention." We will also be starting each session by creating a comic cover together. We will take turns with who is in charge of the "framing" (what in general is happening), but you each will have final say on what your character is doing on every cover. The cover may or may not have anything to do with what is currently happening in the story; this is simply a warm-up to get us all into the gameplay mindset.

Safety
How Zakk creates a safe table
In Roll20, there will be a safety deck with Red X, Orange Slow down (usually an O), and Keep going cards. Simply click on one if you wish to invoke it. In Discord, there will be a Lines and Veils channel where we can easily reference them and add new ones as needed. The posted content warnings are my best guess at possible things that may happen based on the setting.
