About the adventure

Miami, 1989. The world has been tilted on its head ever since the Cold War started, but despite being upside down it keeps on spinning for everyone on it - from the ones at the top to the folks just getting by. It's red hot on the streets just like it always is - but people are willing to go above and beyond to have their voice heard while the world is so unwilling to speak out. Phones have been ringing all over the city from pay phones to personal landlines calling people to action, leaving packages nearby with strange masks - typically animals - and weapons before being given less-than-subtle instructions to "clean up" at locations that just so happened to coincide with Soviet insurgent activity. Whoever you are, the heat has been screaming at you lately. Whether it be the government telling you everything will be alright when you still know there's an iron curtain between a free people and their corrupt leaders on the other side of the world, the signs of those who would break apart the fragile union on the homegrown grass you've come to love enough to protect, or simply the sun in the sky beating down on you as you try to get to a job that doesn't treat you right...something guides you to pick up the phone. "Hi! This is [MARTHA], welcome to the Hotline! We've been having a terrible time with the [VERMIN] at [34 SUNSET BOULEVARD]. Your [BENEFITS PACKAGE] should still work to deal with those awful pests, right? Thanks, and...your [DISCRETION] is appreciated, as always."

About me

Since I started playing tabletops I've loved all the joy it brings people at a table. It's like going through a fantastical novel with a group of like-minded lovers of adventure! I've been GM-ing for about 10 years, and every session is worth the memorable experiences that I hope both I and my players receive.

Character creation

Creating your character

All of the Draw Steel character classes are available in this game, even those of a typically more magical nature despite this being a modern, history steeped world. Consider how your character may rebel against the forces they are pitted against once they "don the mask;" more martial characters like Tacticians and Shadows may have obvious places in this sort of setting, but an Elementalist might be a sort of makeshift bomber or grenadier, a Conduit might keep strange concoctions on hand to heal and harm, a Stormwright Fury might take on the mental traits of their mask like a second persona when they shift. Likewise, it may seem strange to be anything but a human, but your ancestry can better represent how your character carries themself through life and conflict. A Devil ancestry could be unnaturally charming, a Dragon Knight ancestry might be someone tempered by the wilderness or specific natural environments to explain their Immunity, a Time Raider ancestry could be a special agent of a government faction or an inventor in their own right to justify their futuristic abilities. We'll have a Session 0 (which will be free of course) where we can discuss how your characters can meet and interact as well as what everyone will be playing.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I have a discord server for voice (no need for vid), and I use Foundry for a virtual tabletop

What William brings to the table

I try to provide everything I would want from the other side of the table; I like a balanced experience with a bit of everything. Tactical combat, interesting characters, a living world to be a part of...I love it all and I want to provide everything I can to my players. Aside from what I hope for, I can provide music, a virtual tabletop for tactical situations, and the best of my narrative skill to make a story worth being a part of.

Homebrew rules

-If there is a feature you get no use out of (as in it hasn't benefited you at all) and you could have chosen something else, you can swap it out at the end of the session for a different choice.

Safety

How William creates a safe table

We're all coming to the table to have a good time, and part of that is an open narrative about what people want and don't want to see. I make it clear that the door is open both in terms of discussion and your ability to leave for any reason, whether it be a personal emergency or otherwise. Life comes first and I'm sure I'll say it many times but we're all here for fun.
