About the adventure
You arrive at the Church of Everight, and can see a dead priest just in the doorway. As you search the church a priest is by the altar and begs you to go into the crypt and rid the church of the undead that have desecrated this sacred place. He points the way to the crypt opening and you bravely walk down the stairs... This easy to play D&D game is designed as an introduction to D&D. You'll need no prior knowledge or do any reading rules, as you'll be guided each step of the way. We'll have a quick chat about what things you'd like to do and I'll advice on good choices from the pre-made characters and with that you’ll be ready to play. Come join us and have a fun time…

About me
I’ve loved the escapism that TTRPGs give us from the first time I playing D&D as a child. Since then the many systems I’ve played in and GM’d, have been fun in their own way. I’ve found the more roleplay in the game generally the more fun it is. I feel its the depth that it gives to the game. My online GMing really started in 2020 as my daughter started her A levels, which are UK exams and she has now finishing her degree. A very proud Dad here. This game grew from one into many and some of those players still at the table 4 or more years later. I feel they’d say that I’m a fan of you the player and love to see the party succeed. That’s not because the adventure was easy, but because you triumphed against the odds. Feel free to call me Japes (jay-ps), which I’m known by IRL as well. Its a sort of hybrid of my given name ‘Jean-Paul’, which can also be used, but not with a bad French accent. The word Jape is an old English word for joke or prank and still sometimes still gets used. My drier sense of humour seems to fit the name, least ways so I'm told 😉. My games are open to everyone, all I ask is that you treat others with mutual respect, so we can focus on having an amazing time. Bring your creativity to the table and embrace your dream character – whether that’s a Call of Cthulhu a 1920’s black female FBI agent or something made from Sapient Pearwood in Discworld or a D&D Fairy Barbarian. They are the gateway to your adventure!

Creating your character
🔷 For this one-shot we'll be using pre-made characters 🔷 You'll choose between 6 different characters 🔷 If needed I can advice on their strengths and how they play in game 🔷 The characters will be 3rd level, have a magical weapon and a healing potion
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Make sure you have: 🔷 A reliable PC, with a Chrome browser and internet connection 🔷 A working gaming headset or microphone and headphones (helps with music feedback) 🔷 Free accounts for: D&D Beyond, Discord and ForgeVTT (hosts FoundryVTT). Links provided after joining 🔷 I'll be 'on camera' and ask everyone to do likewise, it makes for a friendlier game
What Japes brings to the table
🔷 As you’re a new player. I’ll initially guide you through the game mechanics. 🔷 I’ll bring some voices to the table as I role play the NPCs and love it when players do to. It doesn't need to be of a ‘voice actor’ quality. 🔷 Colour maps and many of the great features of FoundryVTT will be in use 🔷 Background music (that is controllable by you so can be turned off if you prefer) and more icy music for those mountains. 🔷 Storytelling that will bring the narrative suspense to the table 🔷 A sprinkle of dry humour that adds a unique flavour

How Japes creates a safe table
Deck of Player Safety [ https://app.demiplane.com/dops ] 🔷 I provide a fun gaming environment filled with unexpected twists and turns, that will keep you guessing as to where things go next. To do this well, safety is a priority. I will need to know where you’re starting from. In Discord will be a link to a google form that lets me know your Lines or Veils, experience (none is perfectly ok) and what expectations you may have. 🔷 Do check the Content Warnings as they will (at least once) form part of this game. 🔷 I embrace inclusivity for all players at the table. Rarely do I see the ism's, but will deal with it quickly should it arise. 🔷 We’ll have a break for 5 to 10 mins half way through the session. Time to top up drinks and snacks.
