About the adventure

This game is set in the years following Final Fantasy X, highlighting the sacrifices made by Tidus and the party which an exclusion of Final Fantasy X-2 as this is a "divergent timeline" where Yuna never became a pop-star. The game will be set in Returner's Final Fantasy 3rd edition rules, which can and will be happily sent to you if needed, if you don't look it up first. They're a fairly simple ruleset to follow but I will help explain as needed/desired. In the story of the campaign, strange scales have been washing up ashore in small villages around the Kilika and Besaid territories. Most of the scales have lain dormant but some have hatched into fearsome beasts known as Sinscales and Fiends. Lately the wisps of Fayth have been gathering and the aeons returning to assist in the destruction of this threat. Rumour even has it of a Sinspawn itself appearing deep in the forests, but nobody seems to know what it is doing in there...

About me

Experienced and inclusive DM accustomed to a variety of player styles. I started playing roleplaying games as a young child with my uncle and siblings, and migrated to making my own campaigns to run in my teenage years and haven't stopped yet! Love to homebrew my own content- from entire worlds and religious systems to just small content like races and classes.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done either in a private 1-on-1 session or inside of the free session 0 that will be provided, whichever is most convenient for you. Most class/race combinations will be allowed and even encouraged to experiment to find what fits you best. If a player wishes to have multiple characters ready, characters are always allowed to be switched in/out of the party at designated locations, but each player is limited to one active character. Tech level is adequate but there is a regional bias against it for religious reasons.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To help prepare for a session a player is asked to please have a working microphone (or fast typing skills), a steam account, and a copy of Tabletop simulator. Tabletop simulator is not NEEDED as I can remote play with you as long as you add me on steam directly. This may spoil certain encounters as you will possibly see DM only notes and hidden figures, but I don't want to lock playability behind a paywall, as I would love everyone to be able to experience the story that I have crafted for the group.

What Evan Brown (Fanatic Crab) brings to the table

I do as many voices as I feel like I can, so on occasion you may end up with two NPCs that unfortunately sound the same. I also provide ambient music when applicable, but I do keep it quiet so that it's not overtly disruptive and will happily turn it off if a player asks me to so that they can focus better. I stick heavily to the rule of cool as I want my players to feel in control and happy about how things turn out so I am always encouraging experimental usage of spells or abilities to try to match up with what you hope to happen, or to simply to FAFO, which I will always encourage. As a stay at home parent I also have a relatively flexible schedule so I can usually find free time to answer any questions that people may have about lore, story, characters, or anything along those lines. I am very easy to get a hold of if you need anything in session or out of session. I try my best to not set unrealistic goals for players in my session as I know that a lot of what happens comes down to dice rolls, not skill. It's entirely possible for a level 1 character to beat Bahamut in a fist fight, rolls permitting, but I still wouldn't recommend it and would advise against trying, but I will always let you try.

Homebrew rules

I will be playing relatively fast and loose with the rules as written, as I will have a heavy emphasis on the "Rule Of Cool" for the players to enjoy themselves properly. It's possible that a ruling may come up later on that I had not planned for in a certain situation which may end up being changed, which will always be done to either benefit the players or enhance their fun. Any active changes will be discussed and if needed, voted on.

Safety

How Evan Brown (Fanatic Crab) creates a safe table

I go over any limitations that the party will have during session 0 and take rigorous notes so as not to offend or upset anyone with content that they were not prepared for, and anything that could possibly borderline that we had not discussed I will always check in the moment and fade to black as needed. I will never go out of my way to upset a player but I do know that in the heat of roleplay tensions can rise for a number of various reasons. In cases like that I will be asking everyone to take a quick 5 minute break to make sure that everyone comes back happier. I also will be running the sessions for approximately for 3 hours, but if time extends a bit longer that is also acceptable. The final "hour" or whatever is left, will be used to discuss the session and if anyone had any issues or other complaints then during that time frame will be the time to discuss that. Nobody is expected to stay during it, but you are always welcome to. If there is extra time beyond that I will be discussing what I feel went well and what didn't with the party members still in attendance. I will have a ZERO tolerance policy to players attacking each other verbally, and will eject anyone from the campaign that does not listen to that rule as we do not need that negativity. PvP actions will be allowed as long as both sides consent to it, but no robbing each others characters at random.
