About the adventure
Over five hundred years the the richest and most magical mine in all the land was attacked by orcs lead by evil wizards. They hoped to plunder it for its wealth. They were met by resistance form brave dwarven craftsmen and human and gnome wizards. As wizard battles sometimes do, the battle caused an earthquake that buried the mine and all who were in it. All who knew its location perished and the mine slipped into legend. Many whispered of the great wealth it held but its greatest treasure was the Forge of Spells and its innate ability to aid in the crafting of magic items. The only clue anyone has is that the mine was near what was once a large fortified town called Phandalin. Recently settlers have returned and started to rebuild the town but it is a backwater farming town now. A shadow of its former greatness. Now you have been hired by a dwarf who will only tell you that with what he and his brothers have found he will need all the protection he can get and you and your team will be paid very well. Your first duty is to escort a wagon full of mining supplies to the town of Phandalin. As you begin your Journey the old tales of the lost mine linger in the back of your mind, but you must focus on the duties at hand. ---------------------- Beginners or veterans are welcome! This is the 2014 Stater set adventure that has ties into the Shattered Obelisk (could be a follow up adventure if the party agrees). I will update the encounters to the 2024 rules and 2014 or 2024 character builds are welcome. You will start as a first level character and should reach level 5 by the end of the campaign.

About me
My goal is to welcome you to a virtual table that you completely forget about as you become immersed in a story that has never been told before -- because you and your fellow adventurers are creating the story. Success for me comes when you are not only the author, but the character and the audience all at once. My job is just to locate you in a space and introduce you to NPCs and Denizens of the world. I have been doing this for a very long time. I promise to work hard as your DM and keep the table fun and friendly.

Creating your character
I will send a D&D Beyond campaign link. If you create a character from within the campaign, you can use any of the shared content available to create a character. No limitations on class, background or species. Use the point-buy option for abilities. I would like to have every character provide a background. It can be brief or in-depth, but please tell me about your character's childhood, why they turned to adventuring, who their arch-enemy is and why. I will have further instructions on the D&D Beyond campaign landing page.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord account and a D&D Beyond character. Each can be obtained for free. The Virtual Table Top (VTT) we are using is Above VTT which requires either a Chrome or Firefox plugin installed prior to the game.
What Pitiful Dragon (Rick) brings to the table
This is the Stater Set for the 2014 version of 5e with my own twists. I will patiently teach new players how to play. I am here to make sure we all have fun. That does not mean that I will go out of my way to make sure that your Character survives. But if they do die I hope their death is glorious! I have been DM'ing for a very long time. I love letting players explore as they play; explore the dungeon, explore their character, and even explore their own fears and limitations at Role Play. I run a clean all ages game. Please no sexual innuendos, and let's keep our language PG. D&D involves killing monsters. That does not mean that I will get overly graphic in describing the hideousness of the monsters nor the gruesome way they die. I have ADHD so... yeah... sometimes things get a little wild... but for the most part I stay on target and keep things moving. I try to do voices. I am not a voice actor, so let's set aside your Matthew Mercer expectations before we start. Feel free to mock my attempts at voices but remember excessive mocking could lead to a deadly encounter with a Tarrasque. :) I play with two key rules. The DM is the supreme authority when it comes to rules. I lean toward RAI before RAW, and the rule of cool will often reign over any other rules but probably not all the time.
Homebrew rules
I am sure I have homebrew rules, but I will have to explain them as they come up. If you have a way you have always played, and you want to propose we do it that way, I will consider it.

How Pitiful Dragon (Rick) creates a safe table
I want to run a family friendly game. I will give everyone opportunity to make me aware of anything that they do not feel comfortable with and/or if anything triggers them. Generally I don't want a game where we describe the gore or abusive situations that come out in the course of the game. For instance in this game Gundren and his brothers are kidnapped and tortured. All of that happens off camera but it does happen. I will provide some documents in advance since this is a one-shot and develop a checklist. Players can IM me with an S, N or O during the gameplay.
