About the adventure

Before we get into it, let me tell you what I'm all about! I'm a creator first and foremost, and creating a story with others is what I'm going for! I love to write, draw, paint, and sometimes getting in character for me means getting dressed up like a cool elf. Homebrew is 100% welcome in my games; come to me with a fully homebrewed and balanced character idea, or just a concept that we can work on making together! I don't tend to use homebrew spells, but I can always be convinced as long as they remain balanced and fair. If you're new to the system, don't worry! I'm always happy to teach new players and I can easily adapt the gameplay to be more new player friendly, or to make it more challenging for the experienced players. The world that this campaign is set in is one I made myself! It's rife with interesting characters and side plots, though we'll be focusing on one city in particular. Don't worry, I can always be persuaded to keep the campaign going or even to make a new campaign in the same setting if that's what you'd like. You can always dm me if you want to ask for a custom game, either in this setting or in another one. If the time that is currently set doesn't work for you, just let me know! I might be able to make a new listing at a time that works better for you. ONTO THE ADVENTURE You'll be prowling the streets of a city called Vita Nova, which is located in the depths of a canyon in the world of Avothar. Explore the Upper and Lower Steps, where you can choose to align yourself with the shady and rowdy people below, or the posh and lively people above. The choice is yours! Over the course of approximately 3-6 sessions, uncover the mystery of a recent series of robberies. Meet a variety of characters, make friends, battle enemies, and use your sleuthing skills to their full potential. I hope you're ready for twists and turns that await you in Vita Nova!

About me

Hey there! I'm Dragon! Outside of D&D, I love to draw digitally as well as on paper, write gothic horror, and play all sorts of indie and multiplayer games. I'm neurodivergent and part of the LGBTQ+ community! I'll always talk about Marvel, DC, D&D, and many other things. I'm happy to run custom D&D, MOTW, or even a homebrewed campaign. Feel free to DM me about any session commission requests! If you enjoy telling your character's story as you explore a wonderous world, then we'll get along perfectly! Add in some humour, heart-wrenching moments, and joyous triumph, and that's what you can look forward to in my campaigns.

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting level will be Level 3! You may not level up much, if at all, in this mini-campaign, so just be aware of that when making your character. If you are new to or unsure about making a character, I am happy to help. You will not be charged for any calls or impromptu sessions that are made for character creation. I do ask for character sheets to be sent to me, either through a photo of a physical copy, or a pdf or screenshot of a digital one. I also have pdfs of character sheets that you can use if you need it! Stats will be decided through using base stats (8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15). I do allow a bit of adding and subtracting from certain numbers, however you'll need to check with me first. No base number can start above a 16 (before race improvements) and no base number can start below a 6. I do appreciate the urge to min-max by bumping as many stats to 16 as possible, but only one of your base stats can start above a 15, and only one of your base stats can start below an 8. I can be a bit lenient with stat numbers, but I try to stick to these rules to ensure that all characters have a chance to shine.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I primarily run sessions through Discord, so a Discord account is needed. You can ask for a custom game on another system by DMing me. I do at times use Roll20, however it is not required and I can very easily run an entire campaign without using it at all.

What Dragon brings to the table

I always use a lot of voices when GMing! Each NPC will have as unique a voice as I can give them, and at times I will even provide sound effects. I also utilize Craig, a recording app for Discord, to record sessions. This is entirely optional, and I am happy to not record the sessions if that is what players prefer! In gameplay, I love using Rule of Cool. Having fun and doing cool things with your character is all part of the game! However, that doesn't mean you can do everything you want, and sometimes dice rolls may get in your way. Absolutely attempt that handstand into a flying kick, though! As long as you hit, the way you do is all for flavour.

Homebrew rules

I tend to be lax on rules for the sake of having fun and doing cool things. Drinking a potion as a bonus action is one such homebrew rule I use consistently, however others maybe be applied as we go or as people ask for them!

How Dragon creates a safe table

Before the sessions even begin, I'll be sending everyone a checklist for things they are and aren't comfortable with coming up. These checklists will allow me to make a Lines and Veils list, which will be given to each player so they know what to exclude in their characters, and so I know whether I need to adjust anything in the campaign before we begin. Don't worry, I have my own Lines and Veils, too! There will also be a free Session 0, to get to know the setting, ask any questions you may have, and give a brief introduction to your characters to get comfortable. Comfort and fun are my top priorities! I strive to make sure no one is shoved aside, stepped on, or made to feel uncomfortable at my table, and anyone who does not respect this will not be welcome.
