About the adventure

Across the verse, there are many feared and fabled creatures known to adventurers. They haunt nightmares and inspire stories, but few ever lay their eyes upon them. To many these monstrosities are distant ideas - never becoming tangible. There is one, though, that is known to all who call the sea home. A great beast that is one of the only remnants of the great God Devourers from ancient stories but dwells in the depths instead of the stars. A monster of titanic proportions whose name all sailors dread. The Kraken. Foolhearty as it may be, you now hunt the beast. With a crew of hardened sailors, you sail to find your quarry. You're not the only one though. With a great bounty on its head, sailors the world wide now have assembled their crews and stocked their gun decks. The race is on for the head of the kraken and blood is already in the water. Will yours end up among it? ___________________________________________________ This game is set in my homebrew world of Ilian; a place of grit, whimsy, divinity, and ingenuity. It is a world of my creation but has some thematic overlap with the worlds of traditional D&D and other fantasy. This game will be primarily combat focused. Having a backup character is not necessary, but it could be useful.

About me

The tension is weighty, suffocating: a moment suspended on the edge of a blade. Live, or die. Fight, or run. Figures move in the shadows - wolves, goblins, sweeping robes, shapes only seen in nightmares. Panic threatens to drown you; you glance about, danger everywhere. From behind, you hear the sound of steel against a scabbard; a low incantation begins; a growl reverberates. You divine the presence of trusted companions, and you swallow your fear. You are not trapped - these shadows are. In your hand, you sense your power - your quiver, your sword - and you cast it forth. Time slows, fates bend, and the silence breaks with the sound of destiny manifesting: Natural Twenty. ____ Welcome, friends, to the Cherry Tree! My name is Randall, and I’m here to do what I love most in this world: tell stories with others. Those stories may range from the horrific to the hilarious, from epic high fantasy to small-town whodunnits. No matter the themes or tone, I try to make every story unique. Sometimes this means tweaking a module to get a better fit, sometimes this means writing a whole new story - and sometimes it means setting the tale in my own homebrewed world of Ilian. Anyone who is willing to collaborate with, listen to, and respect their fellow players is welcome at my table. Whether our story is fun and goofy or dark and spooky, everyone should feel safe and comfortable with it and each other.

Homebrew rules

- Potions: Taking a potion can be done as an action or bonus action. Administering one to an ally is a full action. - Dynamic Rolls: When making a skill check, you may be able to use a different ability modifier. If you think a different ability could apply, you can request to substitute it (i.e. using Intelligence for a Medicine check). - Inspiration: Inspiration points can be spent as a reroll (similar to a luck point). You may 6give your inspiration to an ally for a roll that you see them make. - Quicken Spell: Using the Quicken Spell Metamagic feature, you can cast a spell of 1st level or higher as both your action and bonus action, as long as one of them is of a level lower than half your proficiency bonus, rounded down. - Action Surge Spell: Unless you have Quicken Spell, an item that allows it, or the Spelldriver feat, you can only cast one spell of 1st level or higher on your turn. - Critical Success/Failure: On any attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, a natural 20 is always a success and a natural 1 is always a failure. - Nat 20 Shared Saves/Checks: When you score a natural 20 on a check or saving throw and another creature makes the same roll, you may give one of those creatures a bonus to their roll equal to your Proficiency Bonus. - Deadly Falls: Fall damage scales in die type based on the total distance fallen and caps out at 400ft (50ft-1d8/100ft-1d10/150ft-1d12/200ft-2d8/300ft-2d10/400ft-2d12) - 2024/2014 Rules: Currently, we use 2014 rules but allow 2024 and 2014 characters.
