About the adventure
Deep in the unexplored reaches of Blackmoore Bayou, something stirs in the murky depths. Your old friend and colleague; an intrepid dwarven scholar named Davver Stonescribe has sent you a letter declaring that he has found something in the heart of Blackmoore Bayou - something which he believes will forever shake the core of the world. Delve into the depths of Blackmoore Bayou: a place of mysteries, hedge mysticism, and untamed horrors lurking just beneath the Stillwater surface. Here, everything is a predator - from the savage bullywug tribes to the reaching assassin. Even the fetid air seeks to claim the living, as vile clouds of choking miasma poison both body and soul. It is a place where drowned cabins hide both treasures and ghosts of those who once lived there, and linger still. At the heart of Blackmoore Bayou lies the very mystery that drew Davver and his niece Lynna to this vicious land. What secrets are buried within, and will the rewards be worth the price the party must pay?

About me
A humble player of rpgs who has been behind and in front of the screen consistently for over a decade, I am a lover of all editions of D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and WoD. Experience in running 3.5, 4th and 5th edition D&D, Shadowrun, various WoD and CoD campaigns and games both independent and obscure. My games run from simple, heartfelt adventures to deep social dramas and good old-fashioned dungeon diving!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
We will have a Session Zero where the players will meet for character creation on Discord. Stats will be rolled as per the rules of 2014 DnD, with players starting at Level 3. During character creation, players will also determine their character's history with Davver and his niece, Lynna. The core species and classes of the 2014 PHB will be utilized, as well as those found in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. If players so wish, the Blood Hunter class from Critical Role will also be allowed. In addition to the core species from the 2014 PHB, the species of centaur, goblin and minotaur are also available for play.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will be expected to have accounts on Roll20 and Discord. Most play will be done on Discord, with Roll20 being used to supplement combat encounters. A dice bot on Discord will be used for making dice rolls. As this game will be played over Voice Chat, players must have access to a working microphone and internet connection. While the Dungeon Master will be utilizing a video camera, the use of a camera is optional.
What Chris brings to the table
As a DM, I like to generally stick to the rules, but embrace the Rule of Cool when it would add flavor to a scene or the rules otherwise do not apply to a given situation. Combat is a dramatic seasoning to the adventure. When it comes to portraying NPCs, I favor giving narrative descriptions and affecting a tone over an accent.

How Chris creates a safe table
Players will be provided with a link to a Lines and Veils document, which must be filled out and submitted prior to Session Zero. During Session Zero, I will ask players to DM me if they have more specific topics which are considered taboo for them. During play, players will be asked to DM me with X, N & O's as the situation demands so they do not feel pressured to keep silent for the "good of the group". Halfway through each session, we will have a brief interlude where I will check in on players to make sure they are having fun and are still comfortable. These checks will also be provided if I am asked to stop a scene. At the end of each session, I will likewise have a brief session to discuss the game with the players and how they are feeling. This debriefing will include us discussing their favorite moments, their hopes for the characters, and also any subjects which may have caused them discomfort.
