About the adventure

Welcome to the world of Daeraeria, a realm where empires clash, shadows whisper, and magic lingers in every corner of the land. This adventure invites you into the heart of the Duchy of Otiek, a region known as much for its quiet villages and winding roads as for the secrets that lie hidden in its forests, ruins, and alleys. It is here that the Fire Phantom Company makes its mark: a group of adventurers who live not for kings or crowns, but for the people who need them most. This session is designed especially for new or beginner players of Dungeons & Dragons. If you’ve ever wanted to try the game, this is the perfect starting point. No prior experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to step into the shoes of a hero. We’ll go over the basics together, introduce you to the mechanics at a comfortable pace, and focus on telling a story that you get to help create. The story begins with a summons. The Company receives an invitation from a mysterious benefactor—someone who promises opportunity, reward, and a chance to uncover secrets too tempting to ignore. What they discover is an unsettling trail of clues, enemies who move in the dark, and a sense of urgency: find them, before it is too late. This session blends dark and spooky themes—abandoned places where shadows cling a little too long, whispers of magic that was never meant for mortal hands, and dangers lurking just out of sight—with the spirit of adventure and discovery. You’ll face tense choices, unexpected twists, and mysteries that unravel as you explore. But this is not a story about despair—it’s about courage, creativity, and the bonds you forge along the way. Here, the Rule of Cool reigns. That means if you have a wild idea—swinging from a chandelier to kick a cultist, using magic in ways the spellbook never imagined, or turning a tense standoff into a chance for clever trickery—you’re encouraged to try it. The dice will help us see how it plays out, but your imagination drives the story. Your choices matter, your creativity shapes the world, and your character’s voice adds to the tale we are building together. This is a game for players who want to: - Step into D&D for the first time and learn in a friendly, beginner-focused environment. - Explore a living world filled with magic, mystery, and a touch of the eerie. - Embrace collaboration—building not just your character’s story, but weaving it together with your fellow adventurers. - Experiment and play—whether through bold heroics, clever schemes, or leaning into the spooky and strange atmosphere of Daeraeria. - Have fun first—the rules are here to guide us, but the story and your excitement come first. In this adventure, you will uncover secrets, face dangers that test your courage, and decide what kind of hero your character truly wants to be.

About me

Hello! After playing as a character in many 1-shots and campaigns with my friends, I am now taking on the next challenge of DND: becoming a DM! Im a new-ish DM who likes hosting new players and introducing players to DND in low-stress, high fun, community focused games.

Character creation

Creating your character

After registering for the session, players will be sent the link to create characters using DND Beyond. Character creation can include the following: - Any species or class available from the options provided for DND Beyond (content shared by myself) - Players can select from either the 2014 or 2024 rules. We will blend together these rules as needed in session - Characters should be level 5 - Characters should use Standard Array for assigning skill totals If you have questions regarding class, species, weapons, armor, etc. you are welcome to reach out to pitch the idea or ask about its inclusion!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have accounts for the following sites: - DND Beyond - The Forge - Discord Prior to the session I will send the specific links to access our DND Campaign for character creation, the Discord link for the session, as well as for access to the server through The Forge. Please keep an eye our for this information. We will be utilizing the Foundry VTT system through The Forge. It is recommended that if you have not used Foundry previously that you watch this video to learn the basics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2iRZ42fcJ0

What Jimmy (Tri-Nerd) brings to the table

This session will include the following: - Foundry VTT. This will include ambient music, lighting, and custom maps for the session! - I am a huge supporter of the Rule of Cool. The standard rules are meant to provide a structure for the game, and then to allow us to play with our characters and the story as is possible! - I am by no means a voice expert... I will tell most of the story/interact with players in my normal voice as a result. Players are welcome and encouraged to speak in their characters voice as they see fit!

Homebrew rules

Some homebrew rules to be aware of: - I support drinking a potion as a bonus action - I am not specifically tied to requiring spell components for lower level spells (unless the party wants to be specific on spell components!)
