Creating your character
Create your level-01 character on D&D Beyond (XP-based). It can be any race, class, or sourcebook, just make sure itâs âD&D legalâ. Set the character to âpublicâ so we can download it into an online token in FoundryVTT. Your character portrait will become your token.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a desktop/laptop computer (This doesn't work on a phone or tablet). We're playing on FoundryVTT (it's the best). You'll need Discord to talk with us (headset recommended). Our channel is BattlegroundsVTT#3291 You'll need a D&D Beyond account to create your characters. (free) You'll need a player account (free) on forge-vtt.com Looking forward to seeing you online!
What BATTLEGROUNDS brings to the table
We play on FoundryVTT (it's the best). Great looking maps, animated attacks/spells, and all the other cool stuff that the Foundry Modules provide. We use Discord to chat (headset recommended). Our channel is BattlegroundsVTT#3291 You will have access to our D&D Beyond Campaign so if there's a certain Race, Class, or Feat you're looking for, you can get it. My DM style is the "rule of cool". If you want to do/try something that will make the game âawesomerâ (and it doesnât ridiculously break the game) I say let's try it and see what happens! We'll be serious when we need to but mostly we'll keep it fun. And occasionally hilarious.
Homebrew rules
Drinking a Healing Potion as a Bonus Action = you roll for healing. Drinking a Healing Potion as an Action = Full Healing. A crit hit is MAX DICE + DICE ROLL = DAMAGE A crit fail (melee) gives your opponent an opportunity attack. A crit fail (range) breaks your bow string. You must spend one turn to re-string your bow. A crit fail (magic) causes you to take arcane damage equal to the spell level. When you are out of spell slots, you may continue casting spells, but will suffer exhaustion equal to the level of the spell cast. Exhaustion levels are cumulative. We use the 2024 exhaustion rules.

How BATTLEGROUNDS creates a safe table
We're all adults, and I expect we'll treat each other like adults. My philosophy is that this is a game, and it's supposed to be fun. We will try to take a quick five-minute break every hour or so, depending on game pacing, to give everyone a chance to get up and stretch, get something to drink, use the bathroom, etc.
