About the adventure
⦿ Adventure along the dark and gritty fantasy frontier ⦿ Uncover secrets of a long-lost empire ⦿ Navigate your way through complicated faction politics ⦿ Deal with faith, religion, racial prejudice and war ⦿ Brave the depths of a vast forest of Davokar, where ancient evil stirs The Throne of Thorns is an epic chronicle that spans six full-scale books, and will take your characters from humble beginnings as adventurers and fortune hunters all the way to becoming movers and shakers in the murky waters of Ambrian politics. Nations will be toppled and terrible prophecies will come to life as you hunt for the lost city of Symbar in the great forest of Davokar. Alberetor, the cradle of humankind, fell in the war with the Dark Lords. Your people emerged victorious from that struggle... but there was a cost. The land is dead now, barren and lifeless; ash falls from the sky and nothing grows there. Thus Queen Korinthia leads the exodus of her people to the north, where the enormous and ancient forest of Davokar looms. It offers salvation and damnation in equal measure; once upon a time, an ancient empire dwelt where the forest is now, yet only ruins remain of it. The forest is rich in natural resources, treasures and wonders, but is also deadly and unforgiving to those who come unprepared. This new promised land offers in the shadow of Davokar, Ambria, offers new hope to the settlers, yet also retains the troubles of old Alberetor; dukes squabble, scheme and plot to take the throne, the Church of Prios is enforcing the faith with an iron fist, while dark cults and terrible monsters lurk in the shadows. And in the depths of Davokar old darkness stirs once again, opposed only by a handful of those who everyone considers mortal enemies... Will you prevail and emerge with fame and fortune to the other side of these trying times?

About me
Greetings from Central Asia! English isn't my first language - but I have over a decade of experience as an interpreter and a tour guide both in English and in German. You (probably) won't have to worry about not being able to understand me on voice chats! :D At present, I run a successful Discord server with multiple tables (and awesome people there!), as well as a few games in-person in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Creating your character
We will create characters together during Session 0, starting them at level 1. There will be a guide on applying the lore of Symbaroum to the mechanics of Daggerheart, and we'll walk through the process step by step together. Session 0 will also see us creating connections and background bonds between player characters. If you're joining the game after Session 0, I'll run you through what we have so far and what people are playing. We can work out the details from there. I'm always open for a 1-on-1 session 0 to onboard new players!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will require Discord and a Forge account (both are free, you do not need to have a Foundry license as a player). Familiarity with the rules is welcome, but not required - I will explain and guide you as we play, and the mechanics are fairly simple anyway. Bring your dark fantasy tropes and vibes with you, and be ready to dive into a bleak and at times melancholic Scandinavian-inspired setting full of danger and adventure. And have a spare character. Just in case.
What Sergey Sakharov brings to the table
I'll bring a fully set up campaign on Foundry, complete with scenic art, battlemaps and tokens - everything you need to visualise your journey through the dark and haunted locales of Ambria and Davokar! The majority of the game takes place in Theater of the Mind, so I will have illustrated scenes, tokens and other visual aids to facilitate your imagination. Battlemaps will be used for tactically complicated scenarios. I tend to follow the players' lead in the games. Most of the time my adventures are shaped as "landscapes", with multiple ways to achieve your goals. Railroading is usually not something I do.
Homebrew rules
A conversion document will be available, with new ancestries (and limitations on the basic ones) and campaign frame mechanics. The lore of Symbaroum is somewhat unorthodox and takes a step away from regular fantasy conventions, therefore certain adjustments will be required for it.

How Sergey Sakharov creates a safe table
Symbaroum is a fairly gritty and dark world that deals with themes such as corruption by power, human vs. nature and the merciless struggle for survival. Despair, terrible acts of both people and monsters, eldritch horrors - you can expect that aplenty. That said, there are a few lines that won't be crossed under any circumstances: - Explicit depiction of sexual encounters. They may be hinted at, but never "on screen". - No sexual assault of PCs or NPCs. - Gory naturalistic violence will be mostly given "at large". I don't delve into the massive amount of bloody details. We'll go over all Lines & Veils during session 0.
