About the adventure

Jade Sorowscale created her adventuring guild with one goal in mind, prepare young adventures to succeed where she failed. But when an old enemy returns to the land, it is up to those she dedicated her life to training to save the world, or watch it burn. Enter the Forgotten Realms and join other adventurers on a journey of righting old wrongs. Long ago, the almost forgotten kingdom of Oros fell at the hands of the Embers, a manic cult dedicated to bringing back the fallen goddess Evelyn. The cult was defeated and Evelyn was not released into the realms, but not before the capital city Azriel was razed to the ground. The leader of the cult, Ivory the Sadistic, was thought to have died in the battle. Or did he? This is the mystery you and your party will endeavor to solve. From researching old history, to fighting through underground gatherings, the fate of the world rests in your well trained hands. A high stakes adventure full of clues, dungeon delving, social interaction and combat. There will be periods of fun and frivolity, but also intense moments of danger and loss.

About me

My name is Emmalise, and tabletop gaming is in my blood. I was raised in a family night is a board game followed by a Star Trek marathon house hold. In my family, nerd is not an adjective, it's a way of life. I have played TTRPG's for the last ten years, and been GM'g for the last 6. I mostly run D&D, but have dabbled in pathfinder and have been excited to start Daggerheart! (As soon as I find a party) The thing I love most about table top gaming, is the community one develops to play them. I love collaborative games that require people to work together to succeed. As a GM, I love watching a party overcome obstacles together. Right after that, I love the chaos of putting a bunch of people together in a situation, and watching them run amok. Chaos is the lab in which ideas are formed and tested. It is the factory of fun. I was born and raised in the middle of nowhere Montana. No seriously, there were no other towns near us for almost 150 miles. It was a beautiful landscape straight from a fantasy book. Christopher Paolini based much of Elea on the Montana wilderness, and it is astounding. I moved to Chicago some 4 years ago, and love it. The diversity of cultures, activities and backgrounds is beautiful. I can't imagine being anywhere else. These places I've lived in make it very easy for me to imagine and create fantastical landscapes. From the way people live, to the landmarks that make places special, immersing myself in the fantasy world is easy. Come join me.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be a collaborative effort. As a player, submit two character designs from two different classes. Let me know what character you would prefer to play. The idea is you would get to play your preferred character, but in the case of there being more than one of that class, you have a backup option. As a GM I want your characters to be a part of the world, not just in it. For that reason, I will work with you on your background to integrate it into the world of the campaign. At session 0, we will work out how the party knows each other. Background stories are an ongoing evolution, but the story needs to be finalized by Session 1. I prefer random generation for the characters, and for that reason, we will role stats during session 0. We are starting at level 3, and magical items for adventures of that level are rare. If you want to start with a magical item, you need to have a really good pitch.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I use D&D Beyond for all my campaigns. All battles will be done through D&D Beyond Maps. If you do not have one, there are free D&D Beyond account options, please create one so that you can add your character to the campaign. I will send you the campaign link once you are a member of the party. I use discord as the digital meeting space. If you do not have a discord account, they are free to make. I will send a link for the discord once you are a member of the party. I recommend everyone read the Players Handbook. It will answer most if not all standard D&D player questions. You can get digital copies from D&D Beyond. There are many local game shops, comic book shops, and book shops that sell physical copies. Also, many a public library have copies of the players handbook!

What Emmalise Emsweller brings to the table

As a GM, I love to provide an immersive experience for my players. From music and sound effects, to fun voices for the NPCs, I do my best to help players come into the world I have built. And when building, I love to make players a part of that! The encounters we have, social and combat, are built around your individual characters and what they have experienced! I like to keep in consistent communication with players about their characters' stories so we can go in the direction you want! In my house, rules are more like guidelines than actual rules. The rules are important and help us to determine how we move in the world. But if you pitch me a rad idea that may not follow the rules as written, Rule of Cool states I must see how this turns out! We are a heavy role-play house, so be prepared for more solutions and answers through talking and thinking, verses kill the thing.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew rules I believe in: 1) Drinking a potion is a bonus action 2) Critical Successes and Failures should be honored in every check outside of initiative. There may be homebrew rules we develop together as the campaign goes on but these are the main ones no matter what the campaign is.

Safety

How Emmalise Emsweller creates a safe table

Player safety is a big deal to me. Before you are officially part of the party, I will send everyone a Lines and Veils form. This must be filled out. I am the only person who sees the responses. In session zero, we will go over what is and is not acceptable in gameplay, i.e. PVP is never acceptable. We will also go over use of the X and O cards. I will send everyone a file to print X and O cards off on. These are for use on camera. You can also pm via Discord. I build a 20 min cool down into each session to review the session and check in with everyone as a group about what happened during the session. I will also message each player individually for a session review. If anything ever comes up, my messages are open! Please pm me and let me know. I am happy to address it in whatever way you and I think best.
