About the adventure

Masks: Caught in the Web tells the story of street-level teen heroes in a grim and gritty crime-riddled city, standing up against deep-rooted injustice and corruption of an uncaring system so much bigger than they can imagine. Inspired by shows like Daredevil, Gotham, Birds of Prey, Hawkeye, Luke Cage, etc. The city has always been a cesspool of crime and corruption. Your friends and family get shaken down in the streets. Local shops either pay protection money to mob enforcers or get evicted by arson, or worse, get disappeared. Under the table dealings keep the government and cops looking the other way. So when the cartels took over, everyone was relieved. After all, organized crime should keep the petty criminals under control, right? Then powers started appearing in people, and magic and super science started to make headlines. And now, decades later, nothing has changed. Magic remains as elusive as always, super science remains locked behind the paywalls of government or corporate interests, and powers remain so low-levelled that any punk with a gun can take down a so-called superhero. These days, the cartels conscript anyone they find with powers into their ranks. So you keep your head down and hope they aren’t looking too closely. But deep down, you’ve always dared to dream of a city where the decent folk wouldn’t fear going out of the house that they won’t come back. And maybe, it’s time to fight back!

About me

Hello and welcome. I'm Ani, a let's player, livestreamer, and TTRPG enthusiast from India. I found out about TTRPGs being a thing in my early twenties, and got into the hobby soon after. I've since played many games across many systems. I started GMing in 2017 and I've since run many oneshots and campaigns (my longest being a Monster of the Week campaign set in Ancient Egypt that lasted over 2 years). My preferred type of games are campaigns, as I really enjoy seeing character development of the PCs over multiple sessions. Narrative-focused collaborative storytelling is the greatest appeal of TTRPGs for me. Here's my Youtube channel where I mostly stream videogames, but there’s also a few Actual Plays of some of the TTRPGs I’ve ran: https://www.youtube.com/Anistuffs

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together during Session 1 and establish inter-character relationships and connections with the campaign setting. As this is a street-level superhero campaign, several playbooks of Masks are not a good fit. The following playbooks are well-fitting with minimal rework: Beacon, Bull, Delinquent, Janus, Protege, Transformed, Reformed, Newborn, Scion. If you have any character ideas outside these playbooks, please bring it up and we’ll discuss.

The current party

No previous knowledge or experience is required. The game will start when there’s a minimum of 4 players. Character creation will be done in Session 1 with the whole group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This is a roleplaying game focused on collaborative storytelling, played using Discord for voice (and optional video) and Roll20 for rolls. So you will need: 💻 A computer capable of running web-based programs 🌐 Decent internet access, ideally using common browsers (Firefox/Chrome/Edge) 🎤 Decent microphone. Webcams are encouraged but optional. 🎧 Discord account (free) 🎲 Roll20 account (free) 🤩 Enthusiasm for the game. 🤝 Friendliness, open mind, creative imagination, open communication, consideration for the other group members. ⏰ Punctuality about attending the sessions. 👍 Reliability to inform in case of delay/absence. 📝A way to take notes (if required).

What Anistuffs brings to the table

▶ A friendly gaming environment ▶ A Discord server ▶ A Roll20 game ▶ Masks: A New Generation resources, as required The campaign will be Theatre of the Mind assisted by reference images and music to set the scene and vibes. My goal is to provide a living, dynamic, and consistent world/setting that both responds to the Player Characters' actions and also continues existing without their interaction.

Safety

How Anistuffs creates a safe table

Please don't get too scared by the content warnings. This is ultimately a story of underdog superheroes fighting back against a corrupt system. Crime and its effects are ever-present but I won’t go too descriptive, and the drugs in the story will all be fictional superpower related drugs, no real world ones. After you sign up, I will reach out to you in Discord to have a one-on-one onboarding session 0 and go over the game expectations, safety tools used, content warnings, rules and mechanics for the game system, and anything else required. I regularly check in with players to ensure everyone is comfortable with and enjoying the game.
