Creating your character
* Stats are rolled using the 4d6 drop the lowest method. You may roll 3 sets of 6 stats, and pick whichever one you like the most. * Homebrew content IS allowed, but it should be run by the DM (me) beforehand.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This Campaign will be run using Discord and the Roll20 VTT - ergo, it is necessary to have an account for both services readily available. An invite to the Discord Server will be provided.
What Red brings to the table
I prioritize the Story above all - which means I will go in depth with character integration, background music, and Rule of Cool! Combat will be more than just a slugfest: you will receive incentives and rewards for being tactical, or taking risks. But above all, I will make sure the players are able to explore Strahd's - and my - Barovia, setting their own pace and exploring the land as they please, interacting with it and its people on their own terms!
Homebrew rules
Quick Consumption: You can use items that don't directly damage the enemy (I.e. a health potion to heal yourself) as a Bonus Action. As well, handing small items to other players at a distance no greater than 5ft also doesn't consume any of your resources. Last Stand: If a Character is about to die, they can choose to forego Death Saving Throws in order to throw themselves in the thick of battle once more. This means the character ***WILL*** die at the end of their Last Stand, but they will get advantage to every attack roll they make for its entire duration, and (if they have any) have all their spell slots immediately replenished. Suffering damage equal to their max Hit Points will end the Last Stand and kill them prematurely. Coyote Time: If a player or monster starts falling 10ft or more, they can choose to delay the fall to the end of their next turn OR current turn, whichever comes first. You Got It, They Got It: If a Player comes to a conclusion and can reasonably explain how they reached it, their character can reach that same conclusion, potentially bypassing the need for Insight or Investigation Checks (which the Players can nonetheless ask for if they please, though only once per conclusion)

How Red creates a safe table
Curse of Strahd is a dark campaign, dealing with many dark themes, and a fundamental part of it is the Dungeon Master always being ready and willing to talk with the players and ensure they are always comfortable. In session 0, I will reassure the players about any theme they may be uncomfortable with and, if needed, reduce it as much as possible. I will make sure everyone is aware of what we're getting into, and explain all the systems in place to ensure everyone has a comfortable experience, and can signal their discomfort/discuss it in a safe environment. My aftercare is simply being there. Ask if anything went wrong, and if yes, elaborate. Understand what elements the player(s) is/are uncomfortable with and change them accordingly, all while reassuring them and offering what comfort I can.
