About the adventure

Cambrium's setting is a dark fantasy with a moderate magic level, where it is common enough for most people to understand it however not everyone is able to access it. This has created a magocracy in which those with magical potential, particularly those of noble families or large political power, typically serve the higher echelons of society and control the governmental systems. The prime example of this being the rulers of Cambrium's lands - the Dragonlords. In Cambrium's present date the sentient races have only just begun to gain a foothold in the world, after enduring many centuries of oppression and war from extremely powerful draconic entities. As such, settlements and cities are few and far between. After the end of the Dragonwar there has been no documented 'true dragon' births, and as such dragons have become a rare sight throughout the world, yet still hold a powerful and terrifying presence to all of the races that call Cambrium home, influencing many folklore, mythology and superstitions.

About me

Scottish GM. Night owl. Horror master. Forever thinking of cool D&D ideas. I have been writing creatively since I was a bairn, and it seems almost natural that it would eventually evolve into the role of a GM. My writing is eloquent and accessible due to years of story writing (and university helped too I guess) so I enjoy adding my own spin to official modules. LGTBQA+ friendly. I myself am non-binary so my games are a safe space for people who may be anxious about their gender expression/identity. I will not accept any form of bigotry, sexism, homophobia or transphobia at my table, both in game and at the table. Not only will you be getting a wee dram of an authentic Scottish accent but you'll also find yourself with a GM that has almost every official D&D book on offer but their own collection of homebrew classes and races written and created by yours truly. An expert at weaving personal story quests for players as well as impromptu moments that come in the chaos of the game, you'll never know what was intentional and what was pulled up out of a sheer panic from players completely derailing the story. Fun all around! Please note - I run D&D 5e 2014 edition, not the 2024 edition.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done on Session 0, where I can help guide you in getting all the right things put on your character sheet. You are welcome to think of or even design a character prior to the Session 0, but I will still have to look over and approve the character sheet. Most likely we will be using Standard Array, but can also use Point Buy when calculating character stats. I do not like rolling for stats because it can cause a hugh imbalance of power between players. You can create a character sheet in D&D Beyond if you like to workshop your character, but please keep in mind that I do not have any content on there and I don't allow their use during the campaign. The information on the D&D Beyond must be transferred over to the Foundry character sheet.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord - you'll be joining a Discord server with the other players of the game, where the voice chat will take place. If there's an issue with the TTRPG website we'll use a dice bot in the server. Foundry - all you need is an account, which you can make using your Discord username. You'll be sent an invitational link to join the game and that's it!

What Tacitus brings to the table

Ambient/Combat music will be player through a music bot on the Discord server. Certain effects, such as fog of war, darkvision and weather effects, will be implimented through the TTRPG server. Rule of Cool will also be implimented, just not all the time!

Homebrew rules

Wild Magic Sorcerer is banned. Artificer preferably isn't played. All Matt Mercer/Critical Role classes/subclasses/races/items/etc are banned. There are two ways to drink a potion - using a main action allows you to get the full healing, while using a bonus action quaffs a potion and you have to roll the healing die. Some checks will be done through a blind GM roll. These are typically on checks that your character would not immediately know the outcome of. Critical hits add an extra damage die, not double damage. I don't allow homebrew that I haven't written. UA is a case by case basis, so don't be upset if it gets declined. I don't allow underage player characters. All characters must be 21 over physically (or the equivalent race-wise), appearance wise, personality wise and mentally. I do not allow any explicit sexual content. Mild flirting and g-rated romance is fine in 18+ parties, and out of character jokes to an extent are okay (depending on player comfort levels) but do not expect narrated sex scenes, depictions of sexual nudity or inclusion of kinks/fetishes in any of my games. Imagine Baldur's Gate 3 where you can romance the companions but they're all asexual.
