About the adventure
Strixhaven is a magical university where students come and join one of five different colleges to learn the secrets of magic. You are a brand new student at Strixhaven ready to begin your arcane training, meet colourful people and have plenty of new experiences, when you catch whiff of something strange afoot on campus. Can you figure what nefarious plots are brewing, AND ace your Magical Physiologies exam, AND make it to the dorm party tonight? No previous DND or roleplaying experience is needed! I am more than happy to guide new players through their first DND sessions.

About me
My first time playing DND was in 2016 as the GM, and ever since I have been addicted to telling stories with my friends. I have run high-intensity plane-hopping one shots, tactical death-defying combat encounters and heartbreaking years-long narrative campaigns. My style of play is often mechanically focused, but in service of telling a memorable story. You're just as likely to be put between a rock and a hard place in a dynamic encounter as you are to cry laughing at an improvised conversation or dumb joke. My most played game is DND 5e, but I love other systems as well and would love to spend more time running other games. In my real life I am a student and a musician, playing drums in various venues across my city.

Creating your character
- Level 1 Characters - Point Buy/Standard Array Stats - Available sourcebooks: Players Handbook 2014, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Monsters of the Multiverse, Strixhaven Sourcebook - Optional Homebrew: WBN Witch Class If you are new to DND, don't worry if you don't know what this means! We will cover all these in the session zero. I primarily use the 2014 5e rules, however if there is something from the 2024 rules that you want to use I'm always open to try it. Additionally if you want to use material from other sourcebooks you can run it past me.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Upon joining the campaign you'll get a link to my discord server, where most communication will take place and where we'll talk over voice/video during sessions. Games will be run in Foundry (no installation required, runs in your browser!)
What Nick C brings to the table
I will provide a fun and lively setting filled with fantastical features and animated NPCs, with an undercurrent of secrets and mystery to uncover. You will be able to show your creativity, whether that be through mastery of the game systems or inventive interpretation of your character's abilities. You are welcome to try something bold or unlikely, and the odds of success will be clearly communicated and explained.
Homebrew rules
I will homebrewing the downtime system to simulate the chaos of university life! This system is heavily influenced (ie stolen) from Fantasy High Junior Year.

How Nick C creates a safe table
Safety at my tables is always a primary concern. In Session Zero and beyond I will check in with the whole table to make sure that everyone's boundaries and preferences are respected. I will do this by: - Discussing the themes and elements of the campaign in Session Zero to gauge interest or aversion. - Saying my Lines (things that I don't want present in my game at all) and Veils (things that can be present as long as they are not the focus or described in detail) at the beginning of every session and giving space for players to do the same. - Using a digital X Card/allowing players to invoke the X Card if triggering content comes up in the game, so it can be retconned and replaced. - Creating a culture of acceptance and positivity at the table with zero tolerance for intolerance.
