About the adventure
Beneath the glow of a crooked crescent moon, the village of Wickermoor Hollow prepares for its harvest celebration. Laughter, bonfires, and music fill the foggy night—until the bells toll midnight, and something ancient stirs in the woods. As shadows lengthen and whispers rise from the fields, you’ll uncover that every smile hides a secret… and every prayer may feed something dark. The Crooked Moon is a *folk horror* one-shot for Dungeons & Dragons 5E, crafted for players who love atmosphere, mystery, and meaningful choices. Inspired by *The Witch*, *Midsommar*, and *Over the Garden Wall*, this adventure blends unsettling folklore, moral tension, and quiet dread into a two-hour cinematic experience. Players will explore Druskenvald, a world caught between life and death where superstition rules and the old gods still whisper in the fog. This is a story-driven session that prioritizes immersion, roleplay, and discovery over heavy combat. Each decision carries emotional and moral weight — will you cling to logic, trust superstition, or surrender to the unknown? The session uses ambient soundscapes, narrative pacing, and visual storytelling to build a slow-burn horror atmosphere that invites both veteran adventurers and newcomers to step into the unknown. Perfect for players who want a dark, short, and memorable experience, this game rewards curiosity, empathy, and collaboration over min-maxing or mechanics mastery. Bring your courage, your curiosity, and a candle—because once the festival begins, the night belongs to the Crooked Queen.

Creating your character
🧙 Character Creation DM Yan will provide pre-made character sheets designed specifically for this one-shot. You’ll be able to choose your character after signing up or at the start of the game. Each pre-generated character is fully integrated into the Crooked Moon setting and tied to the world’s folk horror themes — expect morally complex heroes, haunted pasts, and strong narrative hooks. Characters start at level 3, built using Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) and official D&D 5E rules. No homebrew or dice rolls are needed — everything is balanced and ready to play. If you prefer to build your own character, please contact DM Yan before the session to align tone and backstory. The adventure draws heavily on atmosphere, superstition, and dread, so fitting characters are scholars, hunters, healers, or wanderers bound by fate. All sessions are hosted on Foundry VTT with Discord voice chat (microphone required, webcam optional). You only need curiosity, imagination, and the courage to face the night beneath the Crooked Moon.

What DM Yan brings to the table
🌕 What I Bring to the Table As your Game Master, I focus on *cinematic storytelling*, immersive atmosphere, and emotionally grounded roleplay. My goal is to make every session feel like stepping into a living folktale — eerie, beautiful, and unforgettable. You can expect: 🎭 *Narrative immersion* – I use character voices, descriptive narration, and sensory detail to bring each scene to life. Every candle flicker, creaking floorboard, or whisper in the mist matters. 🎧 *Atmospheric sound design* – Custom ambient music and environmental audio enhance the tone, from haunting fiddle tunes to distant thunder rolling over the moors. ⚔️ *Meaningful conflict* – Combat is fast, tense, and cinematic. Every fight tells a story — not just who wins, but what it costs. Rules are followed faithfully, but I embrace the *Rule of Cool* when it makes the moment more memorable. 💀 *Moral and emotional tension* – Choices have weight. You’ll face difficult decisions that reveal who your character truly is when confronted by the unknown. 🕯️ *Safe, collaborative storytelling* – I use clear safety tools, respect player boundaries, and prioritize player comfort. Horror is only effective when everyone feels safe exploring it. Expect a game that balances *fear, mystery, and beauty* — a shared story told under the pale light of *The Crooked Moon*

Safety
How DM Yan creates a safe table
🕯️ Safety & Comfort Even in a horror story, every player’s comfort comes first. My goal is to create tense, emotional, and atmospheric sessions without crossing anyone’s personal limits. Before the game, each player will receive a Safety & Boundaries document - a short checklist that clearly defines what themes are allowed, which will fade to black, and which are completely off-limits. Each player can edit their copy so we’re fully aligned before the session begins. During the game, I use simple safety tools: X – Stop immediately; we’ll change or skip the scene. N – Slow down or adjust tone. O – All good; tension is fun, not distressing. These can be said aloud or sent privately through chat — no explanation required. After the session, we’ll take a brief cool-down moment to check in and close the story together. The tone may be dark and unsettling, but the table is always a safe, respectful space for everyone involved. Fear stays in the fiction — never in the players.
