About the adventure

Some heroes are born, some can be made, and some must rise to the occasion. ___________________________________________________ Our story follows a varied group of Heroes in the wondrous magical city of Aurora. These Heroes often find themselves charging towards grave danger, seeking to fulfil their many motivations within the city. With their bravery, heroics, and comradery, they confront the worst monsters and villains of this world for whatever may motivate them. In a Westmarches-Style campaign, players and characters may rotate in and out from session-to-session. Like an episodic TV show with a changing cast, each session explores one small isolated story that may relate to the overarching story of the group. Whether you come for one session or 20, you will be able to explore a high magic world on daring quests with your fellow adventurers! ___________________________________________________ This game is set in my homebrew world of Ilian; a place of grit, whimsy, divinity, and ingenuity. While it is a world of my creation, it was made with D&D 5e in mind, so there are many things that overlap with the worlds of traditional D&D.

About me

The tension is weighty, suffocating: a moment suspended on the edge of a blade. Live, or die. Fight, or run. Figures move in the shadows - wolves, goblins, sweeping robes, shapes only seen in nightmares. Panic threatens to drown you; you glance about, danger everywhere. From behind, you hear the sound of steel against a scabbard; a low incantation begins; a growl reverberates. You divine the presence of trusted companions, and you swallow your fear. You are not trapped - these shadows are. In your hand, you sense your power - your quiver, your sword - and you cast it forth. Time slows, fates bend, and the silence breaks with the sound of destiny manifesting: Natural Twenty. ____ Welcome, friends, to the Cherry Tree! My name is Randall, and I’m here to do what I love most in this world: tell stories with others. Those stories may range from the horrific to the hilarious, from epic high fantasy to small-town whodunnits. No matter the themes or tone, I try to make every story unique. Sometimes this means tweaking a module to get a better fit, sometimes this means writing a whole new story - and sometimes it means setting the tale in my own homebrewed world of Ilian. Anyone who is willing to collaborate with, listen to, and respect their fellow players is welcome at my table. Whether our story is fun and goofy or dark and spooky, everyone should feel safe and comfortable with it and each other.

Creating your character

Characters can be made in DnDBeyond or Roll20, and levels vary for each adventure. Premade characters are available as well. Character sheets and artwork must be submitted at least two hours prior to the game or you will have to use a premade character. Once you sign up, there will be resources and links available to help you. I will, of course, also be available to help and answer any questions you may have.

Homebrew rules

**Potions:** Taking a potion is a bonus action. Administering one to an ally is a full action. **Dynamic Rolls:** When making a skill check, you may be able to use a different ability modifier. If you think a different ability could apply, you can request it of your GM to allow (i.e. using Intelligence for a Medicine check) **Inspiration:** Inspiration points can be spent as a reroll (similar to a luck point). You may give your inspiration to an ally for a roll that you see them make. **Quicken Spell:** Using the Quicken Spell Metamagic feature, you can cast a spell of 1st level or higher as both your action and bonus action, as long as one of them is of a level lower than half your proficiency bonus, rounded down. **Action Surge Spell:** Unless you have Quicken Spell, an item that allows it, or the Spelldriver feat, you cannot cast a spell of 1st level or higher using your action surge, if you have already cast a spell of 1st level or higher on your turn. **Critical Success/Failure:** On any attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, a natural 20 is always a success and a natural 1 is always a failure. **Nat 20 Initiative/Save:** When you score a natural 20 on an initiative roll or a saving throw and another creature has to make the same roll, you can allow that creature (only one) to gain a bonus to their roll equal to your proficiency bonus. If no other creature made the roll, you gain a point of inspiration.
