About the adventure

The year is 1538 after Andarien’s death. For nearly a century, the Free Palatinate of Orvendal has endured as an independent realm, free of the shackles that bound it to a distant empire. But the march of time has taken toll, and as this tenth decade comes to a close, dark clouds loom over the nation's future. While crude banners gather beyond the western frontier, whispers of treason fester within the city's walls. And as the Archduke's army marches off to face the foreign foe, it falls upon you to uproot the threats from within. Will you pick up the torch and walk the Radiant Path? Or will the Palatinate see its last free sunrise? ----- What you're signing up for: ⚜️Low fantasy, low magic: Step into a world of silver, faith and gunpowder, where the arcane is rare, and the divine is silent. ⚜️Narrative-driven, choice-heavy play: Orvendal needs heroes, and your decisions will reshape lives, laws and institutions. ⚜️A grand adventure across the Free Palatinate, spanning levels 1 through 12. You'll love this game if you enjoy: ⚜️Adventures in the early age of steam, gunpowder and the printing press. ⚜️Grey morality, political intrigue, and webs of conspiracies to dismantle or join. ⚜️Large scale combat where armies clash in under beating drums and flying colors. About me

I hail from the land of the Fair Winds, far south beyond the Great Wall. After an exciting life of wondrous adventure, I settled down beneath the smiling sun, and now share these tales to all who would listen. I've been a Game Master for over 7 years, running games in 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons, both online and in person. I love creating wonderful worlds for my players to explore, inspired by popular media like World of Warcraft and Critical Role, but grounded in real world history of the 10th to 17th centuries. In my games, you'll find grand wizard towers within neatly kept forests, dotted by camps of woodsmen and charcoal burners. Cities full of guilds and competing merchant houses, but also Colosseums where brave gladiators fight mythical beasts. And at the very top, in the highest strata of Church and State, kings, counts and bishops are ruthlessly engaged in their great games.

Character creation

Creating your character

This game will run primarily using 2014 rules. The character creation process will begin during Session 0, where the players and I will discuss the rules and setting to ensure we're all in the same page. Here, players will be given in-depth explanations of the world of Orvendal, how far its low-fantasy nature goes, and we'll discuss together what source material stays, which goes, and what homebrew rules we may want to include. That said, I'd be very happy if you can bring a general idea of what character you want to play to S0. Not a detailed backstory and full character sheet, of course, but a broad overview of what kind of character you'd like to play as. Lastly, this campaign will start at level 1, using point buy system for ability scores. I also, generally speaking, am very generous with starting inventory as long as every item has a reasonable lore reason to be there.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Key essentials: *Accounts on Discord and Roll20. *A PC with a decent internet connection and working microphone. *Learn and understand your character's mechanics.

What Green brings to the table

I strive to provide a high production value experience in all my campaigns. Every game will feature highly detailed maps of cities, villages and regions, dozens of high quality battlemaps for all encounters, a repertoire of carefully selected background music tracks, portraits and tokens for all NPCs present in the story, and my best effort at doing voices and accents for them. The Discord server we'll use will also feature a compendium of lore of the Archduchy of Orvendal, including key information about the country, it's political and religious dynamics, key organizations and characters, and a brief history of the land and its people.

Homebrew rules

Here is a list of house rules I generally include: *Both action and bonus action can be used for spell casting in the same turn. *The Haste spell grants a full second action, with no restrictions as to what you can use it for. Casting spells and multiple attacks are allowed. *Drinking a healing potion as a full action grants you its full benefit. Using it as a bonus action requires a dice roll. *Potions of healing act as painkillers and antiseptics, not magical healing. They grant temporary HP, which will wear off after a long rest. A simple medicine check and bandage during a short rest, visit to a healer, or healing spell, will convert the temporary HP into real HP. *Dropping to 0 HP doesn't make you immediately go unconscious. Instead, you drop to the ground, bleeding out and in too much pain to stand. But you can still talk, do basic gestures, and, by sacrificing a death saving throw, you can crawl up to 10 feet without triggering attacks of opportunity, or perform a defiant melee, ranged, or cantrip attack. This can only be done once.

Safety

How Green creates a safe table

My key safety tool is always Session 0. All matters pertaining to player safety will be discussed there and agreed upon before the game starts, as this will also help me in the prep of the game as a whole. S0 will also determine what our list of Lines and Veils will look like (though it can be added to going forward!). Lastly, I also make use of XNO cards, which are to be either verbally communicated to me in the Discord call during game, or sent (spammed repeatedly) via DMs if you'd prefer to keep it private.
