About the adventure

Grim Hollow is a grimdark fantasy campaign for players who enjoy meaningful choices, haunting atmosphere, and an adventure set in a war-scarred land where kingdoms teeter on the edge of ruin. At the same time, monsters stalk the roads, forests, and forgotten ruins of old empires. Magic is rare, feared, and often a corrupting force. Faith offers comfort but no guarantees, and the supernatural is as seductive as it is deadly. In a land where the Gods are Dead, ancient horrors, tyrant lords, and unknowable entities shape the destiny of Etharis. ⚔️ The campaign spans from level 1 to level 14, allowing players to experience high-level adventures and challenges in Etharis. ⚔️ Experience horrifying transformations as you embrace power beyond mortal comprehension that changes the way you experience the world of Etharis. ⚔️ Homebrew additions, including rules, unique monsters, magical items, and boons, will introduce exciting new elements for you to explore and experience. ⚔️ A curated playlist to set the tone for each encounter. ⚔️ We will be using the 2024 5th Edition ruleset and the following source books for character creation: Player’s Handbook (2024), Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn, Grim Hollow Player’s Guide (2024), The Crooked Moon Part One: Player Options & Campaign Setting (2024), Eberron: Forge of the Artificer. Join the adventure now to experience a Grimdark campaign, where your choices shape the future of the world!

About me

Hi there, adventurer! I’m Ina, a Dungeon Master with over seven years of experience weaving stories, running thrilling encounters, and building unforgettable worlds. I’ve led everything from fast-paced one-shots to a three-year Neverwinter campaign, and I currently run several ongoing adventures on StartPlaying, including Curse of Strahd, Out of the Abyss, and a story set in the world of Exandria. At my table, you’ll find a welcoming, inclusive environment where roleplay, exploration, and combat each get their chance to shine. I love adding personal touches to published modules, designing unique homebrew items, and tailoring each campaign so that every player feels like a vital part of the story. I draw inspiration from Critical Role and Dimension 20 and iconic fantasy series like LOTR. I enjoy blending drama, humor, and high-stakes adventure so that our sessions feel alive, character-driven, and memorable. My goal is to create a space where players can laugh, roleplay, fight epic battles, and tell stories together that they’ll remember long after the story ends. If you’re looking for a DM who balances narrative depth with fun and flexibility, I’d love to welcome you to the table. ⚔️Grab your dice and join the adventure!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before our first session. I will run a session 0 with the players to make sure everyone is comfortable, answer any outstanding questions, and ensure that everyone has their character ready with backstories concluded before session 1. 🗡️For your Ability Scores we use Point Buy system or Standard Array. 🗡️You have access to all classes, subclasses, species, feats, backgrounds and spells in the official material published in the Player’s Handbook (2024), Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn, Grim Hollow Player’s Guide (2024), The Crooked Moon Part One: Player Options & Campaign Setting (2024). 🗡️ Once you have created your character, including the backstory, I will review it and we will have one one-on-one calls that will last anywhere between 15 – 30 min to incorporate your characters to the world, make any necessary amendments and iron out any final details before session 0, where we can speak with everyone at the table about expectations, our characters, lines and hopes for the campaign and maybe create pre-established relationships if you so wish to do.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord Account and a Roll20 account. A decent mic, headset, and computer are also required. Create the character you wish to play by following the character creation rules published in the listing, and please have a general idea for the character's backstory you wish to present to the DM before your one-on-one call. You will be able to review the character sheet for approval during the one-on-one call before our session 0.

What Ina brings to the table

As a DM, I will be sharing the link of the campaign on D&D Beyond and Roll20, providing access to all the content and materials needed to create and play your characters. Roll20 is an accessible VTT with dynamic lighting and useful tools for both players and DM. I will also provide ambient music to set the tone during travel, exploration, and combat. Maps, tokens, and spelltokens to create a visually dynamic battlefield. The combat encounters are challenging and fun. There is always room for the Rule of Cool in my games.

Homebrew rules

📜Rapid Quaffing: You can consume a potion that restores hit points as a bonus action, while all other potions still require the use of your action. Feeding a potion to another character requires an action. 📜Critical Hits: Roll double the damage dice and add any modifiers. 📜Death Saving Throws: These occur privately. 📜Assisting Skills checks: Helping a fellow player with a skill check and providing an advantage requires you to have proficiency in the relevant skill. 📜Grevious Wounds: When a character is reduced to 0 Hit Points, they roll 2d10 and add them together. Then they subtract from the result the number of existing Grievous Wounds they have and consult the Grievious Wounds Table. Upon completing a Long Rest, if the character or someone helping them succeeds at a Wisdom (Medicine) check, a player can remove all effects from Grievous Wounds, but not Permanent Wounds. The DC for the Ability Check equals 10 plus the number of Grievous Wounds the character has. A character with a Healer’s Kit automatically succeeds the check by expending one use of a Healer’s Kit. 📜Permanent Wounds: The effects of a Permanent Wound are irreversible unless the recipient is targeted with the Regenerate spell, upon which one Permanent Wound is removed. Some of the effects of Permanent Wounds can be offset with Prosthetics or magical items 📜Bleeding: If you have the Bleeding condition, you cannot regain Hit Points except by spending Hit Point Dice or completing a Long Rest. The condition ends when a creature finishes a Quick, Short, or Long Rest. 📜Corruption: While you have the Corruption condition, you experience the following effects: ✔️Heroic Corruption. You cannot have Heroic Inspiration or give it to another player character who lacks it. ✔️Corruption Levels. This condition is cumulative. Each time you receive it, you gain 1 Corruption level. If your Corruption level is 6, you either die or transform into a creature of the GM's choosing, under their control. ✔️ Removing Corruption Levels. The Greater Restoration, Heal, or Wish spell removes all of your Corruption levels and ends the condition. 📜Dazed: If you have the Dazed condition, you cannot maintain Concentration. 📜Mutation Checks: When a Mutation check is required, the character must make a Constitution saving throw, with a DC equal to 8 plus the character's level. The more power flowing through a creature, the more likely they are to succumb to mutation. On a failed save, the character gains 1 Corruption level and rolls 1d20 on the Great Beast Mutations table. If the result is a mutation that the character already has, ignore the result and roll again. A Mutation lasts until the character has no Corruption levels, or until they finish a Long Rest.

Safety

How Ina creates a safe table

I will be sending you the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist to establish our lines and veils and ensure a safe environment for everyone. These will be discussed during our session 0. The safety tools will also be available in Roll20 for you to use should the need arise. A typical session will involve everyone logging into D&D Beyond (the link to the campaign will be shared with you after joining the game), joining Discord, and accessing the Roll20 campaign. Once everyone is situated and ready, we will jump right into the game. Rolls will be made through D&D Beyond and sent to Roll20 thanks to the Beyond20 Addon.
