About the adventure
🦇 Batman: Brightest Day — The Long Halloween Gotham City stands at the edge of a new dawn. The Bat-Family has brought peace, order, and hope—but that hope is cracking. On New Year’s Eve, Bruce Wayne’s return to the spotlight ends in chaos as a forgotten laugh echoes through the night. Now a deadly riddle unfolds across Gotham’s holidays, and the family must face the truth: their greatest enemies might wear familiar faces. In this cinematic campaign using 2024s D&D, players step into the boots of Gotham’s legends—Batman, Nightwing, Oracle, Robin, or even reformed rogues like Harley Quinn. You’ll investigate haunting crime scenes, battle AI echoes of fallen Robins, and confront the mystery behind the “TERRY Protocol,” a weapon designed to replace the Bat himself. The game blends detective noir, superhero drama, and emotional storytelling. Expect social intrigue, moral choices, and high-stakes combat where compassion can be as powerful as a punch. Whether you’re a lifelong Bat-fan or a player who loves character-driven mysteries, Brightest Day invites you to uncover what happens when Gotham goes Beyond Batman.

About me
Greetings, adventurers! I am James, better known as "1HiddenSquid1" in the vast world of gaming. It's a pleasure to make your virtual acquaintance. With several years of experience as a Dungeon Master in the realm of pen and paper Dungeons & Dragons 5e, I've had the honor of crafting fantastical worlds alongside incredible friends. As I embark on my fourth year behind the DM screen, I'm excited to extend an invitation beyond my local game shop and close-knit circle of friends. I want to invite YOU to join in on the magic! Welcome to a world of co-creation and collaboration, where your storytelling prowess is put to the test. A realm where you can cultivate your imagination, temporarily leaving behind the world you know to dive into one meticulously crafted by a community gathered around a virtual table. Here, we delve into stories of Honor, Valor, Glory, Loot, Love, and Loss. Above all else, we set out on these adventures for one reason: FUN. In the campaigns I oversee, I draw inspiration from the official

Creating your character
We’ll build your characters together on D&D Beyond before the session begins. I’ll walk you through every step—whether you’re new to One D&D or a seasoned player. Expect a collaborative process where your backstory and mechanics both matter. Level & Stats: All characters begin at Level 12, using point buy or standard array (your choice). You’ll start equipped as experienced heroes with tailored gear that fits your role in Gotham’s mythos. Character Options: We’ll use One D&D 2024 core rules, plus any official D&D Beyond content. Homebrew features (gadgets, hero backgrounds, or custom powers) are absolutely welcome—we’ll craft them together to fit the story. Who You Can Play: Choose from the Bat-Family, Gotham’s reformed rogues, or original heroes inspired by the city. Your character should have a reason to protect Gotham—or a secret that could destroy it.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before we dive into Gotham’s longest night, make sure you’re ready to suit up: Create a D&D Beyond Account – We’ll build your character sheets together there. You’ll get a campaign invite link before the session. Join Our Discord Server – This is where we’ll chat, share art, and handle all in-character updates and pre-session RP. (Invite link will be provided.) Have Access to Voice & Video – We’ll play using voice (and optional video) through Discord. Make sure your mic and camera are working. Download Any Shared Handouts – I’ll send visuals like Gotham maps, villain profiles, and riddle handouts before the session. Read the Briefing – A short pre-session “mission file” will set the mood and recap Gotham’s current state. Optional but encouraged: bring a drink, and your best gravelly Bat-voice. We’re telling a cinematic story together—so come ready to think like detectives, fight like heroes, and feel like Gotham.
What James Darley brings to the table
I run Brightest Day: The Long Halloween like an interactive movie—equal parts detective mystery, superhero drama, and emotional storytelling. My goal is to make you feel like you’re living inside Gotham’s myth. 🎠Cinematic Storytelling: I use vivid narration, boxed-text intros, and full character voices for Gotham’s rogues and allies. You’ll hear the weary calm of Bruce Wayne, the wry grin of Harley Quinn, and the cold logic of Evelyn Nigma echoing through the dark. 🎧 Atmosphere & Immersion: Each act features a tailored soundtrack—noir jazz, rain, alarms, and orchestral build-ups as the tension rises. I’ll share visuals of Gotham, the Batcave, and key villains to keep you fully grounded in the world. ⚔️ Gameplay Style: Expect balanced pacing: tense roleplay, layered investigation, and cinematic combat that rewards creativity. I embrace the Rule of Cool—if it fits the scene and feels heroic, we’ll make it happen. That said, I know D&D inside and out, so mechanics will still matter when it’s time to roll. 🦸 Player Experience: I focus on collaboration and emotion. You’ll get personal spotlight moments, moral choices, and the freedom to define your version of Gotham’s legacy. Whether you want gritty realism or redemptive hope, I’ll meet you there—and make sure every moment feels worthy of the Bat-Signal.

How James Darley creates a safe table
🦇 Safety & Player Comfort My table runs on trust, collaboration, and respect—just like the Bat-Family itself. The story may get dark, but the players should always feel safe. 🗝 Session 0 Check-In: Before we begin, we’ll review tone, themes, and content boundaries together. Brightest Day explores mature themes (violence, trauma, redemption), so I’ll send a Lines & Veils safety form where you can privately mark anything you don’t want depicted or want handled gently. ⚠️ X, N, & O Cards (Digital): We’ll use the X/N/O safety system through Discord messages or voice chat: X: Stop. I’m uncomfortable—let’s pause or fade out. N: I’m okay, but this is close to a limit—let’s ease up. O: I’m good—this scene is intense but I’m comfortable continuing. You can message me directly or say it aloud at any time. No explanations required. 💬 Aftercare & Debrief: When the Episode ends, we’ll cool down with a short group debrief—sharing favorite moments, checking emotional tone, and grounding everyone back in the real world. Heavy stories deserve gentle landings. 💙 Table Promise: Everyone is welcome at this table. Hate, harassment, and gatekeeping have no place here. We play to explore, to create, and to feel—safely, together.
