About the adventure

"Greetings. Welcome to my Library. On its shelves in its books are numerous stories. All of them wonderful and terrifying. Explore them freely, but with the knowledge that doing so is not without risk. For you see, by becoming a part of the story you risk never leaving it should the choices and decisions you make turn out to be the wrong ones. Fancy a read?" Players will be normal people finding themselves involved in some not normal events. Most of those events will have supernatural or horror elements to them while others may be more lighthearted. Each adventure plot is independent of the others with the Library being the common thread between them all. Sometimes, the characters will get to be themselves, while at other times they will pretend to be other people. The genre of the game, between story adventures, will also change now and again. While the main element is supernatural/horror, the genre that that supernatural/horror takes place in will vary. This is a campaign that uses the World of Darkness game system, but is not itself a part of the World of Darkness. This campaign is intended for mature audiences and will contain mature subject matter. Any listed content warnings are a possibility, but are not guaranteed to be present either all the time or even at all.

About me

I have been a player and game master for several games for over 30 years. I have a home-brew background as well as a published TTRPG background. I tend to stick with older games, as I am often not fond of the newer versions. My style is partially scripted and partially off-the-cuff. I tend to be tough, but I always try to be fair. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes. If I make one, let me know and I will rectify it. I have been know to chuck rules I don't like, or at least modify them (and make you know about them up front!) so that they are less unfavorable. I want my players to feel challenged, but still have fun. I prefer role-playing and not roll-playing. I am cool with new players and veterans. I stick to older editions of multiple games mainly because I actually prefer them over the newer editions as opposed to being too cheap to upgrade. That said, I am not above running a game in an edition I am not fond of, but I tend to charge more for it as the trade off.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create a normal human being using the standard World of Darkness game system. A character will not have any special powers or abilities by default. Ideally, I would like to work one-on-one with each player to build their character prior to the start of the game. Characters should be able to work with a group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

As this game is on Discord, players will need a microphone so that they can communicate with the Storyteller and the other players. If a player wishes to use their webcam, they are free to do so, but are not required to do so.

What JP McClendon brings to the table

I have access to World of Darkness, mostly Vampire: The Masquerade, supplements for building the characters. I can also provide to any player who wishes it a blank character sheet.

Homebrew rules

No specialties. Use Linguistics from Revised edition instead of the Languages Merit.

Safety

How JP McClendon creates a safe table

At the end of each game session, I will check in with the players to make sure that any of the content that transpired in that session was not found to be triggering or offensive. Granted, if something happens and a player wishes to voice any issues the moment it happens, they are encouraged to do so. I do not want any player to feel uncomfortable at any time.
