About the adventure

Scotland, 1922: you and your fellow players are saddened to hear that your family friend, Jack McKee, has passed, but then receive a letter from a lawyer in Edinburgh, Scotland, that he has left you something in his will: a property with a dark reputation Prior knowledge of the setting or game system are not required, just the willingness to explore the darkest of corners, and accept the risks of such a venture (in-character, of course).

About me

Hi there. If you like campaigns or one-shots of the fiction-first style, with a focus on character growth and roleplay, we might be a match. I love to run a variety of settings; everything from descriptive horror and investigations, to heroic fantasy adventures and gritty cyberpunk shenanigans. My style certainly leans more into the light-prep and improv method. I love narrative and roleplay. I like to involve players in the world/scene building and descriptions. I love to homebrew stuff. I sound far too Scottish to put on other accents (most of the time). You can also find recorded sessions on YouTube for some of idea of my style.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will supply a selection of pre-generated player-characters to save time and allow us to get into playing. We can walk through changing the existing characters, or creating new ones as you desire, should you have strong feelings about playing a particular character. New characters can be created using the Foundry Character Wizard, which walks you through the process, and allows you to use any of the permitted creation styles (point buy, rolling stats, etc.) The character sheets will be hosted on my Foundry instance, and accessible outside of the game on request. No prior knowledge is required, just bring an enthusiasm to delve into the mystery before you. I shall have back-up characters on standby, should yours meet an untimely fate mid-session, so you are not left out of the action.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A steady internet connection and good quality mic is required, as is an account for using Discord. I do not use or require you to use a camera. Foundry is accessed via your internet browser, and supported by all the major browsers. If your microphone's audio quality is consistently poor, I'm afraid I cannot have you playing in the campaign. Prior knowledge of the rules is not required. This is a horror-investigation game, and should be approached with the appropriate attitude, and a preparedness for topics/descriptions typical of the genre.

What Darkmalice brings to the table

I have over twelve years of experience running a large variety of game types, including Lovecraftian-horror one-shots and campaigns, across multiple game systems. I bring a self-hosted Foundry server with scene images, ambient audio, handouts and interactive character sheets, and a vivid imagination.

Safety

How Darkmalice creates a safe table

At the beginning of sessions, players will have the opportunity to declare/define their Lines and Veils. Within sessions, players will be able to call a pause or halt to the subject matter at hand, should they feel the need to do so. Anyone needing to leave the table for any reason is entirely acceptable. Pre/Post-session discussion about anything at all will be available. We'll be using Discord for voice-chat, so a decent mic is required. I do not use or require cameras. We'll be using my hosted Foundry for images, handouts and additional audio. No account is required. Links to each will be provided prior to play.
