About the adventure
In Pendragon, you play a knight seeking glory by overcoming life-and-death struggles, crossing blades with ruthless enemies, demonstrating your prowess on the battlefield, and fighting for love and justice in a world of brutal medieval realism. Welcome to King Arthur's Britain! In the years following Uther Pendragon's untimely death, Britain has fallen into a divided realm of squabbling warlords and increasing threats from Saxon conquest. Days ago, a squire named Arthur drew the sword Clarent from the anvil in which it was embedded, fulfilling the prophecy and signaling him as the rightful heir and High King of Britain. While you, recently knighted yourself, have sworn your oath to the High King, not everyone has. Others such as the powerful King Lot reject this boy king claim to the throne. As one of the Boy King's newly sworn supporters, you will help Arthur secure his place as the High King of Britain, but first you'll need to help ensure he's coronated king! In this short learn-to-play campaign, you'll be introduced to the main mechanics of Pendragon, learning alongside other new players, covering such topics as character creation; using traits, passions, and skills; pursuing honor, glory, and knightly ideals; combat and warfare; life in court; the Winter Phase; and the setting itself. Our short campaign will include elements from the two adventures in the Starter Set along with adventures from The Grey Knight, taking the player-knights from Arthur's claim to the throne and coronation to foreign courts, and finally a quest into the Other World of the Wasteland where your knight will confront giants, fae, and other mythical beasts.

About me
Welcome! I'm Gunnhrafn (he/him), and I'm a long-time GM (26 years of experience) who loves to run a wide variety of games for a wide variety of people, including introducing new players to role-playing games and introducing players to new games. I first started GMing in 1986 and I first began playing TTRPG back in 1982. As a GM, I enjoy shared story-telling and collaborative world building. I run one-shots (which can run 1 to 3 sessions), campaigns, and can be hired to run a game for a group, a one-to-one single-player game, teach a game system, or help with character creation. If I'm not currently offering a game you're interested in or at a time that works for you, drop me a line and we'll see what we work out. For custom bookings please contact me with an inquiry. I'm available to run one-shots, short-run games, and campaigns for groups and individuals (for one-to-one gaming). I'm also available to teach game systems. Rates will vary depending upon the request. I use Discord for communication, and a mix of theater of the mind, Foundry VTT, Roll20, Quest Portal, and Google Sheets depending upon the game.

Creating your character
As Pendragon character creation is complex, I will provide pre-generated characters, but I will also offer a character creation tutorial for those who wish to learn character creation before we begin play. (I'll also offer a character creation tutorial at the end of campaign for those who want to learn how to make characters after learning the game's mechanics.)

Safety
How Gunnhrafn creates a safe table
Pendragon is a game of meaningful choices and actions with consequences that shape future gameplay. It's a game of playing knights in King Arthur's Britain pursuing their own goals of glory, honor, power, and ideals. Pendragon is also a complicated game full of crunch — a lot of game mechanics — that can make it intimidating to learn. Hence, this learn-to-play campaign designed to teach the game in a friendly, welcoming environment. To help ensure we all enjoy our game, I will send out a modified version of the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist prior to Session Zero. Other safety tools we'll use during play include the X-card, Script Changes, and an Open Door policy, as well as post-session Debriefing, Stars and Wishes, and Roses and Thorns in our Discord text channels. We'll also check in with each other to make sure we're enjoying the game. While I don't engage in graphic descriptions of violence, abuse, or gore, each of us have different tolerance thresholds, so I strongly encourage players to make use of our safety tools, and we can revise our lines and veils as needed. During game play, we'll use Discord for voice and text chat, along with Roll20 to manage skill checks, combat, and the like. While we will use some maps and images, much of our game will be run using theater of the mind. During each session, we will have at least one 10 minute break, roughly halfway through each session. I strongly encourage player feedback, both in what you like about current play, what you would like to see happen in future play, and what isn't working for you. My job as trying to create the best experience I'm able to for each player, and that requires good feedback from you.
