About the adventure
This is a sandbox style adventure based on the modules Tyranny of Dragons and Dragon of Icespire Peak. You're a new adventurer with great plans and great aspirations when while visiting the small town of Phandalin, you find yourself in the midst of chaos as the machinations of many secretive groups all culminate in a frightening day. Not to mention the sight of a fearsome dragon that hasn't been seen in this area in a hundred years. You'll be presented with many hooks and the choice to go wherever you want to deal with the dangers at hand. But be warned-- time doesn't stand still for paths unchosen, picking a path-- or not will have standing consequences some great, some small. This campaign is designed for beginner players and returning players, and for those looking for a lengthy but manageable campaign.

About me
Hi! My name is Nick, and I love telling stories! I have an extensive background as a theatre director and screen write, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to professionally tell stories and have fun with others together in the same room or virtually. When you play a game with me, your characters are the priority. I try to build engaging interesting stories that brings your own imagination into the mix. Wether we're playing D&D 5e, Roll for Shoes, or a various amount of other RPG's. I generally gravitate towards Theater of the Mind, but love establishing illustrations and setting the tone with music.

Creating your character
You will receive a link to Discord, D&D Beyond, and Roll 20, so if you don't have an account with any of those, make sure you do. You should come having a pretty good idea of what kind of character you want to play. We will begin with level 1 characters and we will do Rolled Stats 'with Advantage'-- so you will roll stats twice and take the set you like more. DO NOT ROLL STATS BEFORE SESSION 0, if you have rolled your stats before session 0 I will ask you to re-roll them again. An important factor in creating your character is that they should have heroic aspirations and generally want to do good and work as a team. Lone wolves, villains, Evil type characters should be avoided. I will always be down to hearing an interesting pitch, however. We will also discuss during session 0 how your characters know each other, if they do at all. I'm using the standard 2014 5e ruleset. You will have access to the OG players handbook and classes through my D&D Beyond page, so please keep an eye out for Legacy classes (since I haven't brushed up on 2024 classes). Pretty much anything class/species pre 2024 rules is good for you to use, including Critical Role expansions. We will not do any homebrew classes/mechanics in this game. We will be doing a session 0 to discuss themes, subject matter, and go over your characters, the session 0 will be free. Depending on how that goes we may go into a small introductory session, before a proper opening session 1. Feel free to message me your character ideas before session 0!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This will be run primarily through discord with voice and camera, I will have mine on, but camera on is optional (but highly recommended!) Your character sheet should be used on d&d beyond or printed out to have at the ready. Digital Dice or physical dice + honor system is all I ask. Occasionally I will use roll 20 for big combat encounters-- but expect some background visuals and theater of the mind.
What SpeakNicklish brings to the table
Through my D&D Beyond Content Sharing, you have access to a lot of Pre-2024 books/rules that you can peruse at your leisure. Please do not look into the Icespire Peak or Tyranny of Dragons Modules (this includes Hoard of the Dragon Queen). I do some voices, but they all end up accidentally become british or irish, and sometimes its inconsistent, but I like to have fun with it. I'm getting better every day. I've been learning to incorporate music in my discord server, so I'll be trying to add some ambience to our games, wether its Theatre of the Mind, or through Roll 20. I value well thought out plans and creativity alongside the rules. If you've thought out an idea and have taken the time as your character to make it work out, I'm more than likely going to reward that kind of playstyle.

How SpeakNicklish creates a safe table
Players can expect time dedicated to the actions and combat, and medium -light rules. A ruling may be made in one session and upon reflection, I may decide that I don't agree with it and address it in the group as a whole and moving forward I will stick to the ruling. During our Session 0 I will send out a Lines and Veils sheet for you to use to describe what you are comfortable with, versus not comfortable with. The content warnings that are listed are not exact representation of every topic that will exist in the game, but are themes that I have used in the past, so you can expect something to come up over the course of the campaign, so long as it hasn't been listen in your Lines and Veils sheet.
