About the adventure
Curse of Strahd is perfect for players who enjoy dark, atmospheric storytelling, gothic horror, and character-driven roleplay. It’s ideal for groups that like mystery, moral choices, and tense encounters rather than constant combat, and for those who want to explore a richly detailed world where every decision could bring them closer to power—or doom.

Creating your character
Character creation will take place before the first session during a short Session Zero, where we’ll discuss backstories, tone, and party balance. Players will begin at Level 3, giving them access to their subclasses and a stronger sense of identity early on. Stats may be determined using the standard array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8), point buy, or by rolling (this method must be supervised by the GM) depending on player preference. Characters can be created using D&D 5e (and/or 2024) Player’s Handbook, with optional material from all official D&D sourcebooks allowed. Homebrew or third-party content will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis to ensure balance and fit with the campaign’s gothic horror theme.

What Branden brings to the table
My GM style blends immersive storytelling, character-driven roleplay, and a cinematic atmosphere. I use ambient music and soundscapes to set the tone of Barovia and bring its gothic horror to life. Players can expect distinct NPC voices and emotional moments that make the world feel alive and personal. Combat is tactical but fast-paced, emphasizing teamwork, creativity, and the thrill of survival rather than endless dice rolling. I generally follow the Rules as Written, but I’m flexible in applying the Rule of Cool when creative ideas enhance the story or make for memorable moments. As your DM, I also have a D&D Beyond Master-tier subscription, allowing me to share all my unlocked books and resources with players in my campaigns. This gives you access to expanded character creation options, spells, and items—making your D&D experience deeper and more customizable without needing to purchase additional content yourself.

Safety
How Branden creates a safe table
Player safety and comfort are top priorities at my table. During Session Zero, we’ll go over expectations for tone, content, and comfort levels, using a Lines and Veils document that I’ll share digitally before the first game. Players can note any topics they’d prefer to avoid (“Lines”) or limit in detail (“Veils”) so that everyone feels respected and comfortable throughout the campaign. I use X, N, and O cards digitally—players can message me privately or use table signals at any time to indicate when something feels uncomfortable or needs a quick check-in. No explanation is ever required in the moment. After more intense or emotional sessions, I include a brief aftercare check-in, giving everyone a chance to decompress, share highlights, or express concerns. My goal is to ensure the table remains a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space, where players can explore dark themes like horror and tragedy in Curse of Strahd without ever feeling unsafe as people.
