Creating your character

📝 Character Creation Your characters will be first-year students at Brackenfell Academy, just beginning their journey into chaos, magic, and self-discovery. Think of them as inexperienced adventurers who are still learning their craft. Here’s how we’ll handle character creation When: Characters will be created before the game begins so we can jump right into play once the story starts. Level: All characters start at Level 1 in Daggerheart. Stats: We’ll use Daggerheart’s standard character creation process Tools: You can create your character in two ways 1. Use Demiplane’s character builder. I can share access—just let me know and I’ll set it up for you 2. Fill out a character sheet by hand (pen and paper or digital PDF) and post the finished sheet in Discord Books & Materials: You only need the Daggerheart rules (which I’ll provide references for). Everything else—Brackenfell Academy setting details, custom rules, and Mythic GME twists—will be introduced during play. If you’re new to Daggerheart, don’t worry. I’ll guide you through the steps and help you settle into your role as a Brackenfell student.

Preparing for the session

🧰 How Should You Prepare? Before we dive into Brackenfell, here are the steps you’ll need to take so you’re ready to play 1. Join the Discord This campaign will be run entirely through Discord. I’ll provide the invite link once you’re accepted. 2. Set Up Your Character Sheet Choose how you want to build your character • Use Demiplane’s character builder (I can set this up for you if you’d like) • Or use a pen-and-paper or PDF sheet, then share it in Discord 3. Read the Basics of Daggerheart You don’t need to be an expert. I’ll provide references and walk you through everything you need to know. 4. Check Your Posting Schedule This is a Play-by-Post game. Make sure you’ll have the time to check in daily—I’ll be posting more than three to four times per day to keep things moving. 5. Bring Your Student to Life Think about your character’s background, their goals, and what excites them about Brackenfell. (Optional prompts will be provided if you’d like inspiration.) That’s it You don’t need Roll20, Foundry, or any other VTT. Just Discord, your character sheet, and your imagination.

Every post, NPC, and twist is designed to give you a personalized and immersive story. I post more than three to four times a day, so the game never stalls and you always feel momentum. Narrative-Driven Storytelling Brackenfell is about magical chaos, schoolyard drama, and mysterious dangers beneath the academy. I embrace the Rule of Cool—creativity, cleverness, and character-driven choices matter more than strict rules. Dynamic NPCs and Worldbuilding Professors, rivals, ghosts, and cafeteria cooks will all have quirks and depth. Expect colorful personalities who feel like part of a living academy. Rivalries, crushes, and alliances will all shape your experience. Balanced Gameplay You’ll get a mix of lighthearted fun (detention hijinks, Swarzle matches) and tense mystery (uncovering clues about the ancient threat). Combat will be dramatic and narrative-focused, not bogged down in tactical grids. Atmosphere and Tone I lean into written roleplay. While I don’t use ambient music or VTTs for PbP, I make up for it with vivid descriptions, playful NPC dialogue, and collaborative storytelling that makes the academy feel alive. Guidance and Accessibility Whether you’re brand new to Daggerheart or a veteran roleplayer, I’ll walk you through rolls, character options, and mechanics. My Discord community is inclusive, safe, and welcoming for all players.

🛡️ Player Safety and Comfort Your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are my top priorities. Play-by-post games thrive when everyone feels respected and supported, and I work hard to make sure that happens. Private Discord Server The game will take place in a private Discord server, just for you and me. This ensures a safe, dedicated space for your story without distractions from outside chatter. Lines and Veils Channel Inside that server, there will be a specific channel for Lines and Veils. You can post your boundaries there at any time, and they will always be respected. This keeps communication simple and ensures your comfort is always at the center of play. X, N, and O Tools I use a simple text-based system in Discord for safety checks. You can message me directly or drop an X, N, or O in the thread at any time X means stop immediately, the content isn’t okay N means you’re uncomfortable, let’s redirect O means you’re good and enjoying the current direction Inclusive Space All LGBTQIA+, POC, and neurodivergent players are welcome. Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. Aftercare If a scene ever lands heavier than expected, I’ll check in with you directly. Because PbP naturally allows breaks between posts, there’s always time to pause, reset, or pivot as needed. No Surprises with Comfort Levels I won’t include horror, gore, or extreme content unless you specifically ask for it. Brackenfell is whimsical and adventurous with hints of mystery, not grimdark.
