About the adventure

Your party is wandering through the woods and took one wrong step. Now you are trapped in an endless bog full of dangers and horrors. You must find your way out, but can you do that without losing your life or at least parts of your body? This is a horror one-shot, perfect for the time of halloween and a quick hit of adrenaline. This also can be reworked into a full campaign if the party so desires. The running time for this one-shot is between 3 and 9 hours which varies greatly by the group. I did my best to get an approximation on here but at the end of the day it is impossible to say. !!NOTE!! Of course as this is a horror adventure, it is to be expected that it will be quite brutal and deadly. Your character might die or be changed permanently physically or mentally so beware! The adventure is the module "Bog of the Hag" published in the Nerzugal's Dungeon Master Toolkit 1.

About me

Hi there, I am Lermu! I am an avid DnD fan and I love world building. I have found that the best way to do that is to let the players shape the world they live in. I design worlds with a certain starting point and some vague direction for it to go, but let players make the ultimate decision. I have experience both as a player and as a DM. I love roleplaying and I hope to find other people who feel the same. I let myself dive deep into most of the things I do, and I will do my very best to deliver an enjoyable experience to my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

It is good to have at least a vague idea for a character, but no worries if you don't. I will help you through the character creation process. The character can be any level 3 class and species listed in the 2024 core rules. Use the standard array when creating the character. This is more combat heavy and more rural than many adventures, so take that into consideration. I am happy to help each and everyone of you to create a character you can get invested in. As this is a one-shot, I will be allowing more homebrew content than on long campaigns. I think one-shots are the place to test and learn. That being said I will still do my best to make sure the game is fair for everyone.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an account on Discord and DnDBeyond. I will invite you all to a discord server and there I will guide you through the rest of the progress. This game is solely theater of the mind, so no Virtual Table Top (VTT) required. Also I recommend investing in your own set of dice and a printed out character sheet. You'll miss half the fun without them.

What Lassi brings to the table

I use a lot of voices and personalities for my characters. I like to have music on to deepen the ambiance, but we will talk about it beforehand. I will guide you when you need it, but let you make the difficult choices. I hope I can provide you an experience where you get to laugh until your stomach hurts but also one where you feel true fear. That also requires your participation. That means you maybe closing the curtains, lighting a few candles, being invested in the game and your character, etc. Rule of cool is the way I roll. If you can make it work, I will allow it. If I make an exception from the official rules, I will let you know and explain the correct rule. This is just to help you memorize the rules in the future.

Homebrew rules

There aren't a set of homebrew rules I use. Just that you are allowed to try and ask if you can try something. I allow a plethora of improvised weapons and ways of dealing damage. My table is more for having fun and building stories than min-maxing and finding a way to optimize the rules.

Safety

How Lassi creates a safe table

I will ask all my players to give me a private list of things they don't feel comfortable coming up in the game and I will compile them into a single list. Before the game we will go over the list together and make sure everyone agrees to it. This will be paid even more attention to than normal as this is a horror game. We can't have an official session 0, so all the possible triggers and uncomfortable things will be gone through by messages with everyone. Everyone will have an X-, N, and O-card ready when playing and will either hold them up when necessary or send a message to me or the specified channel so that the situation is paused. I want to keep the option of pausing the game anonymously open just to make it a little bit easier in some cases. After the adventure has ended I will have a do quick checkup on every player. I also encourage each of my players to speak up if anything in my or the party's behavior starts to feel weird.
