About the adventure

The world of Presidium is based around high fantasy, with magic being used by at least a third of the population. It is something people can be born with, or have it awakened within them. It is filled with all walks of life whose origins can be traced back to the elements, as magic comes from the land and when they die their magic returns to it to be born again. Characters will start at level 1, and for every 3 jobs completed for the Guild the character will level up as well and with enough sessions that character could reach level 10 as well.

About me

I first stayed playing D&D when a group of friends and I found the Starter Kit and dived into Phandelver. Since then I have spent the last 5-6 years running games as a DM for small groups of two up to a weekend event of a dozen players. I've always wanted to be a Game Designer and Voice Actor, so I get engrossed in the worlds we create or emulate and try to bring each character to life as best as I can. Since Covid I have also started learning to run online game via FoundryVTT and thoroughly enjoy the program and its capabilities and recently have started delving into the mechanics of Daggerheart.

Character creation

Creating your character

I ask that you come to the table with just a character concept in mind, and from there we can work with Daggerheart's ancestry, community and class cards to try to make that concept a reality, and if you are familiar with the system and have something more concrete in mind, then I love it! I do have a small lore-doc that will also help explain the world and the way races fit a little more into it to help build up their background a little more. Characters will be created in Foundry and given icons, and I imagine it will take an hour or less to really build up the character and get them ready, which can be done free of charge an hour before the game or scheduled for a time before the day of as well.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

For this game I will be using Discord for audio communication, and Foundry for the VTT. Foundry however does have the ability to allow players to use a web browser for their medium, so the most that would be needed is Discord, internet connection, a computer (not compatible with mobile) and a microphone.

What Matt Whittlesey brings to the table

I like to add voices for my NPCs and will do little sound effects as well. Within Foundry I also have different sounds for music and ambient noise. Since Daggerheart is a fairly new system, and new to me, most of the rules and standards will be as written as we discover all the ins and outs of the system, but I have mostly ran homebrew games with optional rules, so I am flexible on a ruling if it fits the logic, or could add something potentially epic to the scene.

Homebrew rules

There are a few optional rules available within Daggerheart that may be implemented if the group is open to them, but for the most part this series will not have any particular homebrew rules to keep in mind till I am more comfortable and knowledgeable of the system and what can be done with it.

Safety

How Matt Whittlesey creates a safe table

I have the Monte Cook checklist for players to use before a game so they can let me know what they are uncomfortable with, whether slightly or flat out, and will have a document with people and their characters so that I can keep that information on file for future use as well, if they return to one of my games. Also, at the end of a session I would like to have some aftercare where we can use stars and wishes to go over what was enjoyed and what might be improved, or to comment on things that were not enjoyed through the experience. My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable and enjoyable story telling experience to everyone at the table, and while I am learning to GM for a wider audience I would still like everyone to feel included and comfortable speaking with me. If there is anything that needs to be discussed my Discord is always open.
