About the adventure
"Listen to tha' crowd, Norn! They loved you ou' there! I ain't never heard them cheer so loud for any fighter, noble or no!" "Just patch me up, Barren. And put the crowd out your mind. They ain't cheering for me. They're cheering for the only thing they ever cheer for. Blood in the sand." The Twilight Coliseum. A name whispered throughout the world in awe and wonder. A place of glory. Mastery of battle. The apex of martial art. And for you, a new life, if you can grasp it. Blood in the Sand is a 5e Gladiatorial Campaign that follows our heroes as they fight their way from the very dregs of society to glory and honour at the precipice. The fights are fierce, the foes deadly, but neither perhaps as dangerous as the politics of the Great Game. Strap on your breastplate and lift your shield! Join us for a fight to remember. Welcome to the Twilight Coliseum, where heroes are made, dreams are shattered, and there is always. Always. Blood in the Sand!

About me
Leave your blade in its sheathe, pull up a chair, and recover your spell slots. We have a story to tell, a tale, a quest. Fair maidens to slay, terrifying dragons to rescue, and kingdoms to lead to ruin. Or something like that. Welcome and well met, my name is Ryan and I am the Barefoot DM. I started many years ago running terrible homebrew campaigns in the first edition of Pathfinder, but you can now find me wandering the wilds of Faerun in Fifth Edition DnD, recording the deeds of epic heroes and vile villains, telling stories of might and wonder. I run a table where the story is something my players write and the ending is never certain. All are welcome at my table and the rules are as flexible as they need to be. I've run games everywhere from pubs in Australia to bomb shelters in Syria and love to witness the creativity and innovation of my players. So welcome! And roll initiative.

Creating your character
Players begin with characters at first level using the character creation rules in the 2024 Player's Handbook. Homebrew content is possible, and if you have a solid idea for a character that you'd like to play out we can work together to create something that will fulfill your vision. Stats will be rolled during our first session, after which we will put together a shared background for the party.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need an account on DnD Beyond, which we will be using for character sheets and battlemaps. In addition, you'll need a Discord account and a microphone. Webcams are optional but heavily encouraged. All of these (excepting the microphone) are completely free and no paid content is required. All sourcebooks are available and provided once you have access to the campaign.
What The Barefoot DM brings to the table
We'll run our games using the DnDBeyond Maps platform, as well as Discord for voice/video. There's no need to worry about buying any of the books, or bringing anything other than a laptop and a microphone, all of the rulebooks will be provided and the tools are free for players. Whether you're an experienced Forever DM, or a player brand new to the scene, feel free to drop in. We run a new player friendly table and are happy to bring you up to speed.

How The Barefoot DM creates a safe table
Gameplay will be combat focused, with a new arena match every session. Don't neglect the roleplay aspects, however. Ludus Domicus may be a respected gladiatorial stable, but every advantage can be life or death. And the ultimate judges of performance in the arena... are the crowds! Session 0 will cover the rules of engagement as well as lines and veils. Essentially, in case you're not familiar with the terms, we'll lay down the expectations for what will and won't happen in the game.
