About the adventure
FREE Prequel One-Shot: The Crew is rudely awakened from their long-running cryosleep as their sensors detect a rare material and the Company order its retrieval... Dying Hard on Hardlight Station: The story moves on to the titular Hardlight Station and we find the gruesome results of the Crew's expedition to Tau Sigma 7. The events on Hardlight Station have a lot to offer and will serve as a great quintessential experience of playing Mothership. Beyond Hardlight Station: After playing through Dying Hard on Hardlight Station, we can open up the stars to a larger, longer-form campaign circled around the fallout of the events in the story. What's does this campaign offer? ✅ A free prequel one-shot adventure (The Horror of Tau Sigma 7) for learning the game and deciding if this group is for you. ✅ A longer-form (one or two session) adventure (Dying Hard on Hardlight Station) where big, galaxy-affecting events are happening. ✅ Free-form, custom campaign where we explore the repercussions of what we've played so far. Vibes: 💥 A buffet table of all the sci-fi horror/thriller tropes Mothership has to offer, including: 👽 Horrific aliens in inhospitable environments 🩸 Dreadful repercussions 🏴☠️ Competing organizations at an explosive pivoting moment 🎭 Player choices having long-lasting and far-reaching consequences

About me
Hey there, I'm Matt! I'm a pretty busy family man, father of 3 kids ages 10 and under, but I've always set aside time for TTRPGs which have been a part of my life since high school years. At every step of life I've managed to maintain my status as a "career GM," even sometimes running games for my kids. I've GM'd games at GenCon independently, full-time, for the past 4 years. My game interests tend towards simpler, 'indie' kind of games. Examples are Shadowdark, 'Borgs, Cairne, Dragonbane, Mothership, Alien RPG, Liminal Horror, and so forth.

Creating your character
Please make a character following the instructions in the Player's Handbook (free pdf) or using the Mothership app (free for players).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
In addition to a fresh character, you'll need to be able to participate in our Discord server and use Owlbear Rodeo VTT.
What Matt brings to the table
Owlbear Rodeo for an easy-to-use VTT. Mothership is MOSTLY a theatre of the mind sort of game, so the VTT that "gets out of the way" will work best. Discord Video Chat: Easy voice, video, and text. Homebrew Content: After surviving(?) Hardlight Station, we'll take to the stars to deal with the fallout. This content will be mostly custom-made for the campaign. Ambient Music: 'Recommended soundtracks' for background listening at players' discretion. Unfair Choices: Survive. Solve. Save. Pick two.
Homebrew rules
Initiative: Initiative is determined by a Speed check. Pass to go BEFORE the threat. Fail and go AFTER the threat. No Stress gained from this roll. PvP: PvP can (sometimes should...) be a part of Mothership, for example as characters are negatively affected by Stress. When PvP is warranted, we'll pause the game for a pulse check (everyone ok?) and proceed with approval. After the scene, the PvP-instigating character (probably) becomes an NPC under my control, and that player makes a fresh character. Advancement: If warranted, we can experiment with allowing character development during long stretches of downtime.

Safety
How Matt creates a safe table
Mission Statement: Any player I (as a GM or another Player) MUST commit to the well-being, inclusion, and fun of everyone else involved. No exceptions. PvP: See house rule note. Open Door: I maintain an Open Door policy in that, at any time, any player can pause the game to ask for a side-bar to discuss content and comfort. Sexual Content: As a general rule, my games do not include or permit content of a sexual nature. Please consider the inherit violent, dangerous, and mature themes in Mothership RPG when deciding if this game is for you.
