About the adventure

After a friend has gone missing, you and your companions finally tracked her down to the estate of a wealthy noble. Instead of your friend, however, you find something much more sinister. This campaign based off the amazing Devil's Spine module by Monte Cook Games will be played every week! I have extensive experience helping players learn to play Cypher, so don't feel like you can't enjoy one of the greatest role playing games ever made.

About me

I started running games in 2016 cause I thought Adventure League was too loud and crowded at my local game shop. My main games are DnD 5e and Cypher, though I have experience with Alien RPG, Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars D6, and more! I love comedy and fantasy games but thoroughly enjoy horror and sci-fi. My goal as a GM is to make sure you're having fun and encourage character building/growth. I'm not a RAW kind of GM. While I do defer to the rules on certain things, my overall goal is to keep balance and fun integral to the game. I also give inspiration if you make me laugh out loud while you're in character.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will start at Tier 1. You can find the Numenera core rulebooks at Monte Cook Games website! They have physical and digital copies. Below is a character generator that uses most of the recent additions. https://darkliquid.co.uk/playground/numenera/characters This the official character creator, but as of right now, they don't have Numenera specific options available. You can still make a character, just include magic and tech options for a fantasy/sci-fi game. https://tools.cypher-system.com/ Once you have your stats and abilities, you'll need to input them on the Rolegate character sheet so your rolls can be accurately made.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will only need a Rolegate account to play. The Cypher system character creator requires an account but that is optional for players to use. Rolegate is available on PC and mobile, so players will have the freedom to input their responses wherever and whenever. **Session length is the average amount of time players can reasonably expect to spend per week on the game.** Play-by-Post games are typically slower than most others, but there is also the freedom to check in every day and play in small snippets. Its easier for party members to split, explore different threads, and rejoin thr group with new information. The goal is to have players active about 15-30 minutes per day, with occasional longer bouts for combat. The scheduled game time is the usual time I will check in daily to see what players have input, though more often than not, I check in more frequently.

What GMSyd brings to the table

I'm not a Rules as Written GM. While I will defer to the rules on some things, I mostly operate on the Rule of Cool. Character backstories and connections are essential to keeping a cohesive narrative. I prefer having players make shared NPCs, events, and more to help their characters bond before getting into the game proper. I also love helping people learn to play RPGs. Not just 5e, but Cypher, Alien RPG, and more.

Safety

How GMSyd creates a safe table

General Rules 1) Respect and listen to your fellow players. 2) Respect and listen to the DM. 3) Making the DM laugh so hard they can’t breathe while you’re in character gives you an XP. 4) Remember actions have consequences. 5) No explicit actions will be detailed in-game. This includes sex, torture, etc. In accordance with StartPlaying.games rules and rightly so, no non-consensual sexual actions and no pedophilia will be allowed in this game. 6) No politics. 7) The Rule of Cool applies to the DM as well as players. As this is a play-by-post game, session 0 will be done on the first day the game starts. We will go over everything in text as well as get lines and veils, which will be listed under the games rules on Rolegate.
