About the adventure

The windswept tundra of Icewind Dale is the true test of one's mettle. Here it's survival of the fittest. Kill or be killed. This frostbitten land needs heroes... Set within the northernmost point of the Forgotten Realms, this campaign unfolds across the longest winter to hit the Dale yet. Two cruel years have left townsfolk desperate, landscapes ravaged, and even the hardiest of explorers forced to reconsider treading through this land. Embark on a survival-styled campaign across Icewind Dale. Meet the people of the Tentowns and stand against the schemes of despots, mechanical dragons, alien visitors, vampiric lycanthropes, and mad Goddess of Winter herself: Auril the Frostmaiden. Your characters will have a history woven into these lands and its many tales. You will harbour secrets from those whom fight alongside you. Fame, fortune, and freedom can be wrought from the cold hands of fate in this tundra. If all else fails, perhaps slaying a Goddess and taking her power for yourself may do the trick?

About me

Hi! My name's Leon, and I've been running D&D for over 15 years now. I began running tabletop games with my own homebrew systems and had years of player experience in various different games before that. Since the launch of 5th Edition I have been running it, as I was a little too late to the 4th Ed party. Since the near end-times of 2020 I've been running games online for friends around the world and getting paid for it. I absolutely love Dungeons&Dragons, I'm constantly thinking of campaign ideas, plot twists, new storylines, npc voices, dialogue lines to throw at my players, new magical items, feats, subclasses, races, everything! I'm experienced in running both adventure modules or homebrewing campaigns of my own construction. I strive to make my players feel at home in the fantastical worlds I guide them through and tailor story beats to their beloved characters. To me, I really hold to the notion that TTRPGs are cooperative story-telling experiences. I'm big on my campaigns, sessions, and stories, require a good amount of both give and take. You invest your ideas and passion with me, and I'll return it tenfold~!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done at session zero as a group. We will be using D&DBeyond for all our character sheet needs for the course of the campaign. Characters will start at level 1 and progress through to level 14 by the end of this campaign. Stats will be rolled, hit points per level will be rolled. Any and all content available on D&DBeyond will be permitted for use in the creation of your characters. Go wild. Characters do begin the campaign with a free feat of their choice. This will be discussed in further detail at session zero~!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Prepare a D&DBeyond account, one can be made easily through the use of gmail or twitch accounts. Familiarise yourself with the site as much as you would like. A discord server will be made and managed by me, games will be hosted through there and any relevant campaing material, party chat, and perhaps hanging out between sessions will be done there. For maps and the like we will be using Owlbear Rodeo, you may make an account there if you are so inclined. Bring with you some dice, a well enough thought out character, and a positive attitude~!

What DMLeon brings to the table

I follow the rules as written BUT am always open to the rule of cool. Following the rules allows us all to come to the table with some similar understandings of the game we are about to play. If ruling disputes pop-up during gameplay, do allow me right-of-way to handle the situation and call a final ruling. It is my table. I do my best to portray different characters to the fullest extent of my ability. I will do voices and will not expect you to do one in response. Be comfortable. Throw one in later if you so wish. Character and scenic art will be provided. Maps and visual aids where need be too. I shall link ambience and music for every twist and turn.

Homebrew rules

Characters start with 1 free Feat. They will gain another free Feat at level 4. Drinking a potion is a bonus action, feeding another creature is still an action. Critical hits deal 1 single maximum damage die, and 1 rolled damage die. For example, a shortword would go from doing 1d6(Roll) +3(Stat Bonus) damage, to 1d6(Roll) +3(Stat Bonus) +6(Max). Additional attunement slots will be provided at levels 6 and 12. Each character can only benefit from an individual spell that would bring them back to life; Once. Revivify; Once. Raise Dead; Once. Resurrection; Once. However, death may not always be the end.

How DMLeon creates a safe table

During session zero we will cover this area. Also, a link will be sent to each player where they may privately share their personal Lines and Veils in response. If, at any point, something is done and a line or veil is crossed, please feel free to immediately make that known above the table. Immersion comes second to each players individual comfort. If someone does something wrong or crosses any of my lines, you can be sure they will spoken to and dealt with accordingly. I do believe in second chances and that nobody is perfect, as well as the pressure that may come with speaking to many strangers online. However, none of these are grounded enough reasons to excuse poor behaviour. It will not be tolerated beyond the first warning.
