About the adventure

The quiet farming village of Cluckhaven has always been known for two things: its rolling green pastures and its prize-winning poultry. But lately, something has been picking off chickens, ducks and even the occasional goose in the dead of night. What began as a few missing hens has turned into half-empty coops, shredded feathers scattered on the wind and nervous farmers who can’t sleep for fear of what creature lurks in the dark. All tracks point toward Cragspire Mount, the jagged peak looming over the village. The locals whisper of strange cries echoing from its caves and glowing eyes spotted along its cliffs. Rumours fly faster than a spooked rooster - some say it’s a wolf, others a monstrous bird, and a few insist it’s something much worse. The village council has called upon you and your fellow adventurers to solve the mystery before Cluckhaven runs out of food - or worse, before the beast hungers for more than fowl. Grab your gear, steady your nerves and prepare to face the unknown. The fate of the flock rests in your hands… and talons may be waiting in the dark. 🐓🐓🐓 This is a single one-shot adventure designed to show you how to play D&D 5e on D&D Beyond's VTT with the 2024 rules. All you need to do is make any kind of level 4 character you want and click the link you'll be given to add it to the campaign. I'll teach you how to do everything else. About me

I've been playing D&D since the 2000s and started DMing a few years ago when my regular DM took a break. Now I run weekly modularised one-shots and mini-campaigns. I'm not a rules lawyer and I love to reward my players for creativity and comedy! While sometimes the themes can get dark, my goal is always to create realistic-feeling worlds with real stakes and shades of grey. I'm narrative-forward and my players say I'm great at creativity, voices and storytelling. Visit my profile for reviews or my website - dmdarque.com - for even more info!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🍗 A good internet connection 🍗 Registered on my Discord server 🍗 A working mic (webcam optional, but it helps me) 🍗 Some pen and paper 🍗 A level 4 character loaded into the campaign 🍗 A fun backstory to share :)

What DM Darque brings to the table

🍗 I'll show you how to use the D&D Beyond VTT "MAPS" 🍗 You'll enjoy ambient music from KenkuFM 🍗 You'll complete one adventure by the end of the session 🍗 You'll hear character voices and experience combat 🍗 I'll explain why there are always multiple ways to 'win' 🍗 I'll show you what a Rule of Cool table is like

Homebrew rules

I have some house rules that I think make everything more fun: ---> Ties go to defenders ---> Flanking is only directly across ---> Using or giving a potion is a free interact with object ---> If you suggest a check, you make the check ---> If I suggest a check, those with proficiency or named make it ---> If you roll a nat 1, you drop your weapon or hit a friend ---> Be kind to each other ---> Hype up the quieter players If you don't know what any of that means, don't worry! I'll explain everything.

Safety

How DM Darque creates a safe table

Before we get started, I'll run through the house rules on cooperative play and lines/veils - telling you how to advise me of a veil or hard line at any time. You can also DM me on Discord anytime before the game starts to let me know of anything that might be difficult for you. Again, if you don't know what any of that means, don't worry! I'll explain everything before we start.
