Icewind Dale - Rime of the Frostmaiden

In the far north, the Everlasting Rime has caused a night that has lasted for more than two years. Vengeance, it seems, is at its best served cold.

About the adventure

Set in the far north of Faerûn, adventure waits for those with the courage to take up the challenge of ice, magic and intrigue. While most within the Dale struggle to survive under the endless night, risking below freezing conditions without the Sun to provide nourishment, others have chosen to embrace the chaos, opting to use the calamity to further their own agendas. But within the ice, snow, storms and vast expanse of endless winter, lies a secret so old - and so terrifying - that there are few who dare to speak of it. What other fantastical treasures lie within the sunless heart of the glacier, and if they are recovered, what would that bode for the people who call this region home? A tale of dark terror and malice, with elements of intrigue, investigation and exploration, this adventure is supposedly meant to run from levels 1-11 - but we may (depending on the parties actions) reach even further than that. Roll up a warrior, a mage, or anything else you think will be of use, but make no mistake... the Dale looks to claim many victims within it's icy claws...

About me

Ready for adventure? Roll up a character and let me take you on an epic journey! As a seasoned GM, I bring a lot of resources and experience in storytelling, theatricality and nuance. Studying the performing arts at a tertiary level for many years along with degrees in literature, contemporary arts and drama, as well as a stint at Melbourne’s prestigious VCA, I’m confident that I’ll be able to help you create a story and adventure that you’ll remember for a long time to come. Be sure to send me a message if you want to arrange a session outside of those listed. I can create an adventure for you to join at a time that suits you! :)

Character creation

Creating your character

Players should be happy to build as they like from the player's handbook and expanded rulesets. 2014 and 2024 builds are welcome but please note we will be using the 2024 ruleset for the campaign - with some home-brew rule interpretation. If you're unsure or this is your first adventure, don't worry - I'm here to guide you through the process and help you find a good balance for your role within the party. I do prefer characters to roll for stats, as it adds an element of randomness to the game - characters will begin at level 1. Please note, too, that your characters will need to have access to home-brew content turned on as well - just in case you find something extra cool on our adventure. :)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will be using the Maps tool on the D&D Beyond toolset, so players will need to have access to an account (free or standard), along with access to Discord for voice and video chat in game. Links for both the campaign for D&D Beyond and the Discord Servers will be supplied on successful application to join the game.

What Matt the GM brings to the table

What do I offer? Put simply, I try to create a living, breathing world for my players to explore and live out their characters experiences in. There's not a lot that you won't be able to attempt to do in my games, and I provide a rich tapestry of NPCs, creatures and chaos for you to interact with. I will provide background music through Syrinscape, which you are welcome to listen to or not, your choice. I also try to balance the campaign with even amounts of role-play, combat and exploration. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I have an open door policy, meaning that if there are any issues arising from sessions or the game as a whole you are free to contact me via our discord server 24/7 with any concerns you may have.

How Matt the GM creates a safe table

I use Lines and Veils, Aftercare if it's required and a slight debrief at the end of each session to help everyone (including me) take a breath post game.
