About the adventure
This is part of the 15 Nights of Frights sponsored by Start Playing games and Roll20 for the month of October. It is 1923 and you have been summoned to the deathbed of Rupert Merriweather, and old acquaintance. They have a dying request, one that you cannot ignore once you have heard it. There is a farmhouse that was once used for arcane experiments by a group of students who thought they new more than their professors and mentors. Now, they have spent their entire lives keeping an ancient evil at bay. Until now. Rupert Merriweather is the last of the arcane circle that holds the line against the darkness, and he is dying. Will you answer the call of a dying man's request? Will you answer the Call of Cthulhu? This is The Edge of Darkness, one of the classic Call of Cthulhu adventures since the early editions. This will be an epic adventure in the CoC world suitable for newcomers and veterans alike. This is a horror game, and a very scary investigation. It is not suitable for anyone under the age of 17. Trigger Warning: Edge of Darkness is a horror setting that evokes sensations of terror and there are elements of ancient magics and/or curses that put this on par with slow burn movies like Hereditary and The Wicker Man. I create safe space gaming for any and all. Along with being queer friendly, we also avoid real-world aspects of racism and prejudice, religious persecution, and other cultural horrors that don't belong in our fictional horror game. You can expect to... Find lot's of avenues for investigation. Solve riddles and mysteries following the clues. Deal with the supernatural and otherworldly entities. Probably have nightmares afterwards. What I bring... I am a good GM, but I am an even better horror-meistress. I know how to create a mood and tone that will stick with you. I know how to do the slow-burn horror you are looking for in a game like this. I do voices, roleplay and improv dialogue with you, and I have a lot of great virtual elements that you cannot get in a tabletop game. So, sign up, sit back, turn the lights down low and prepare to enter a dark world of horror. Prepare to enter... The Edge of Darkness

About me
I am a queer friendly DM/GM and I am they/them femme myself. I am a professional writer and creator. I have a lot of knowledge about social anxiety and using games for that. I have run many workshops for RPGs and worked with new players for decades. I hosted a DnD server for 200 people during 2020-2021. I am also a huge board game nerd and I run a monthly Queer Game Night. I know how to work with a variety of groups and group needs. I create safe space gaming for all identities. I would rather have you world-build than just hex-crawl. I can be booked for private and custom games. See my time availability. I currently offer DnD one-shots. I offer Date Night DnD romance adventures from the Red Light Library for couples, throuples, and friends with roleplaying benefits. I have official WotC campaigns, both short and long, that I can run for you, including Temple of Annihilation, Princes of the Apocalypse, Curse of Strahd, Rhyme of the Frostmaiden, and others. I often tweak or rework these to be more gender-neutral or queer. I can do custom DnD, Fate, Achtung! Cthulhu, Fallout, Coyote and Crow, or other game systems for you and your group. I am currently offering Stranger Morning Cartoons, a 4-5 session mini-campaign set in a world based on 1980s cartoons and rock music.
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
This will be set in the 1920s. We maintain a safe space gaming and embrace historical anachronisms here. You are welcome to create your own characters. There is a starter in my game that will step you through basic character creation. If you already have a character you are welcome to import it in. I will have pregenerated characters for you as well.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You can roll up new characters in the game, but I highly recommend just using the pregens. This is a Call of Cthulhu adventure, don't get to attached to them. Create a dark space for yourself. Even if you don't have to go, at least try.
What Jeri Starr brings to the table
I will do voices, I will have music and provide maps and imagery to accompany the theater of the mind experience. This is a chance to take part in a very creepy, slow burn horror experience.

How Jeri Starr creates a safe table
I go over lines and veils every session. We limit the profanity and there are no sexual situations. I create safe space gaming for all identities, which is no small task in a 1920s HP Lovecraft setting. I have been tweaking CoC adventures for over two decades now to make them open to everyone and their play styles. Simply put, we embrace all anachronisms and create a world where real-world intolerance is not a part of our game, no matter what the setting is.
