About the adventure

The adventure begins in the region known as the Sword Coast, a rugged stretch of frontier land along the western edge of the Forgotten Realms. Between bustling cities and coastal trade routes lie wild forests, rolling hills, and lonely mountain ranges, where danger and opportunity walk hand in hand. Travelers along the King’s Road might pass merchants, mercenaries, wandering adventurers, or farmers hauling their goods, but beyond the safety of the road lurk creatures and mysteries that few dare to confront. This is a land where bold heroes can carve out their own tales of glory. At the heart of the story is a small frontier town called Phandalin. Once a forgotten ruin, it has begun to grow again as miners, settlers, and fortune-seekers try to make their living in the area. Life here is rough and simple, built on hard work, community, and the hope of prosperity. Around it, however, stretch untamed lands filled with abandoned ruins, hidden caves, and ancient secrets left behind by civilizations long gone. For adventurers new to the world, Phandalin serves as both a refuge and a springboard into the unknown.

About me

I have been involved with TTRPGs for around 5 years now. I started as an avid fan of actual-play podcasts, that gradually turned into me finding a group to play with once a month, and that gradually turned into me becoming a regular GM. I have been a GM for almost 3 years now for several one shots and a few long running campaigns. I have been a GM for groups of up to 10 players at a time, and run many home brewed and published adventures. I mostly stick with DND 5E (2014 and 2024), but I have dabbled in Daggerheart and Warhammer RPG systems.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen during session 0. Come to session 0 with any and all ideas that you have for your character and we will make it happen together! Please have a physical or digital copy of the Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook (2014) on hand so we can work through character creation together.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play in this game, you will need access to my Discord server and the Foundry VTT server. As well as D&D Beyond to host character sheets. Please have accounts created for these three things. I will share links and materials through them.

What Reilly brings to the table

As a GM, I will provide the atmosphere, ambience, and tools for us to run a successful campaign together. I use background music to set the tone in different scenes, fun character voices to help NPCs be more memorable, as well as shared resources on D&D Beyond to make rules and character creation/leveling easier for all. Lastly, and most important, I will do my best to provide a safe and fun virtual meeting space for us to enjoy the fantatstic world of TTRG together! I will be as transparent as possible and have an open door policy, allowing any player to talk to me about any concerns or issues they have with anything involving the campaign.

Homebrew rules

Generally I run only two homebrew rules, but I am always open to suggestions if the whole party can agree upon it. Modified critical hits: maximum regular damage + extra damage dice. Potions: Potions can be used as a bonus action.

Safety

How Reilly creates a safe table

To keep players safe and comfortable during play, I use a few different safety tools. During session 0 we will discuss the expectations and general content of this adventure, based off of that discussion we will establish lines and veils for the party so I can prepare each session accordingly. I also employ X, N, O cards at my table. This is a direct way for players to inform me if they are uncomfortable with anything happening during a session. Players can send me a direct message on Discord during a session with an X, N, O and I will adjust accordingly. If you are unsure how X, N, O cards work, we will cover this in session 0. Lastly, I like to end every session with debriefing the session and checking in on how everyone is feeling about how things went, what could be better, what was good, etc. This informs me on how I can adjust the way things are going in the story to ensure everyone is having the most fun!.
